The UpFlip Podcast - 44. How to Start a $450K/Month Epoxy Flooring Business
play

10/31/22 • 43 min

How much money and experience do you need to start an epoxy floor coating business? Brandon Vaughn invested $45,000 to start Wise Coatings in 2021. Now, he has 8 locations bringing in a total revenue of $450,000 or more every month with 15-25% profit margins, and he’s talking to UpFlip to share how he did it.

Brandon started Wise Coatings as an experiment. He wanted to see if someone could start a business without spending a single day working in the field. Instead, he focused on setting up smart systems, hiring a great team, and marketing the business to bring in more customers. So far, his experiment has proven a success, and he’s built a scalable garage floor coating company with huge revenue potential as a result.

Of course, no business is perfect all the time. We’ll hear what Brandon has struggled with as he’s grown his business, what mistakes he made early on, and how he corrected those issues to get Wise Coatings back on a profitable track. He’ll share his successes, too, and how he has used his expertise with business systems to set up his garage floor epoxy business for fast growth from day one.

The UpFlip Podcast - 47. How to Start a $480K/Year Online Course Business
play

11/21/22 • 37 min

An online course is an appealing way to earn passive income, or add an extra revenue stream to an existing business. You don’t need any special expertise to do it, either, and Jacques Hopkins is proof. He turned his hobby playing piano into a $40,000 a month business when he started Piano in 21 Days, and you’ll hear how in this interview.

Jacques had a traditional career as an engineer but wanted a job that would give him more free time. He realized he used practicing piano to procrastinate, and decided to make that passion the heart of his new business. He’ll be the first to tell you he’s not a piano virtuoso, but he does know how to build an evergreen sales funnel, and knowing how to sell online course content proved to be the key to unlocking his business growth.

One of the best things about an online course business is its low barrier to entry. Jacques started his with a budget of around $150 a month, and those costs have stayed low as he’s grown, meaning about 50% of his revenue is profit. He’ll explain the main costs an entrepreneur should budget for and how to make the most of that investment, along with how to set up smart systems and build a team to make your income as passive as possible. If you want to know how to create an online course, this is the podcast episode for you!

The UpFlip Podcast - 67. How He Earns $2M/Month with a Charter Jet Business
play

04/17/23 • 42 min

Justin Sullivan has always had a passion for aviation. It was that passion that prompted him to start his private jet charter business, a company that’s since grown to an average monthly revenue of over $2 million.

AJAX Jets is just the latest of several aviation companies that Justin has founded. It serves as parent company for his other businesses, which include Private FLITE, JetEx, PJM, and Ubair. Between them, they provide a range of aviation services, including airplane maintenance and acquisition in addition to private jet charters. He’ll talk about why he’s set these ventures up as separate businesses and how he manages his workflow across all of these ventures in our interview.

One of the challenges of the aviation industry is that it’s a high-cost, high-stakes business. Many people don’t know how much it costs to charter a private jet, much less to buy and maintain one. We’ll talk these kinds of numbers with Justin, along with finding out how being a catch-all aviation solution helps them keep these costs lower. If you’ve ever wondered how to start a charter jet business, this interview will answer all of your questions!

play

12/04/23 • 38 min

E.J. McCoy saw a gap in the home services market for pet owners: poop scooper service. He started Scoop Soldiers in 2010 to meet that need, and has built this concept into multiple home services brands with more than $25 million in combined revenue. We’ll learn how he started and grew his businesses in this episode.

Like many kids, E.J. mowed lawns for extra money when he was growing up . He had his own lawn care business by the time he was in high school, founding his first business, Emerald Lawn and Landscaping, in 2006. He’s continued to add brands and expand his business in the years since, expanding to include pest control, fertilization, junk removal, window washing, and other complementary revenue streams. Along the way, he’s also expanded with franchise opportunities to grow beyond his Texas community.

With Scoop Soldiers, E.J. offers something unique: a pet waste removal service–in other words, something most people don’t want to do themselves.
