Local Business Highlight - The Phoenician Restaurant/Michael's Function Hall Owner Bassam Geha
The Three Guys chat with 20 year+ restaurant owner and operator Bassam Geha. Bassam shares his personal journey in the restaurant industry, surviving the pandemic restrictions, overcoming the costs of doing business, and how he's evolving his business model to remain successful. We learn how his experience working at the famous Bishops restaurant prepared him for his life in restaurant owner and remaining success despite all the challenges. Also, exactly what is micro wrestling?? It's all on this episode!
Our story began when the legendary Bishop's Restaurant, which operated in Lawrence, Massachusetts for over fifty years, closed its doors in January of 2002. Having faith in Bishop's menu, along with the blessing and support of the owners of Bishop's, the Bashara Family, The Geha Family who had worked at Bishop's for years opened the Phoenician Restaurant in Salem, NH on May of 2002. Key staff members, many of whom had worked at Bishop's for decades, joined the Geha Family at their new restaurant.
In May of 2009, the Phoenician moved to a bigger venue in Haverhill, MA. The new location includes a 250 seat restaurant, a full bar area (recently renovated in 2019 to accommodate more seating), an outside patio and plenty of parking. The building also includes a function hall with a capacity of 400 guests known as "Michael's Function Hall" operated by the Geha family and serving quality food in the same standard of service that guests have become accustomed to from the Phoenician for over a decade.
