The Talk of the Street: A Coronation Street Podcast

Another enjoyable week on the Cobbles sees Gary try his hardest to upsell on people’s stolen passports, later attempting to shift second-hand 10p mix-ups for £17.40, Gail unreasonably thinks that Audrey should forgive and forget the chaos that her offspring have created and Audrey looks like she’s coming round until an unfortunate spelling of Nigel Havers puts paid to that, and Dev’s heading out of the show for a while and rather than think of something to keep his kids occupied for a few months, the show takes the path of least resistance and sends them all on a plane to India, much to Evelyn’s joy. Meanwhile, Gemma’s a twin; her mum was a twin; her nanna was a twin; she really likes the movie Twins, but she and Chesney aren’t quite prepared for the number of buns in this particular oven and they take turns passing out, and Peter and Carla have found a bed for in a lovely facility but it means moving to Carlisle for a bit. So that’s what they do. They take Simon, because why not. Elsewhere, Tim’s relationship with Tiny may be over before it begins when Sally’s syndicate falls apart quicker than a game of Jenga on a pogo stick, Norris and his chums reminisce about drag nights and Eartha Kitt and fables from Commonwealth Games of yesteryear before he gets in that big black taxi to Edinburgh, and in particularly sad news, Sarah’s phone was not insured.

In Britain’s Got Talent week, we’re warned that the truth hurts. Well, it certainly does for a few characters on the street during a much improved week. The net is closing in on Nick whose lies are becoming more and more fanciful as he tries to talk his way out of his situation, not aided by the fact that Natalie is able to transport herself across vast distances in a heartbeat. Paula’s fancy dinner party and Sally’s horse storylines travel to Cern where they smash into each other in the large hadron collider, where they come out as a storyline from umpteen episodes of Terry & June. Einstein was right after all. Rick the Chin has excess amounts of jam this week and finds Gary’s face very spreadable. And in other news, Carla’s psychosis reaches new levels where she thinks she sees several ghosts from the past and actually does see the new uber-super-villain. Elsewhere, eagle-eyed Imran spots a potential fire hazard, Wayne would be proud, and Gail is arrested for the attempted murder of Lorraine Kelly’s arse.

Corrie is really spoiling us with another good week. This week, thanks to no one in soaps having a clue what to do with their mobile phones, Leanne turns a bit Nick as she attempts to track down the elusive Natalie, who is lucky to get out of Tracy’s cab in one piece and not in Aberdeen, Adam’s dry spell on the street is almost at an end as he and Sarah turn a fairly unethical business relationship into a fairly unethical romantic one, all the while keeping a sulky Gary in the dark, and Ken is a regular misery-guts when he isn’t allowed to watch his documentaries so he soon clashes with the builders renovating next door, but are the builders all that they seem? Meanwhile, Michelle has a proposal for Robert that appears all well and good until we discover that the reason for his frequent and mysterious departures is revealed to have an Irish accent, Tim’s Dad continues to delight no one and a darker side is once again hinted at as he tries to get Yasmeen out of the horsey syndicate, while Sally’s been down the costume shop again and looks to whip Tim up those stairs faster than he can recount an erotic dream with his beloved horse. Elsewhere, Gemma checks with Gary about the likelihood of her four kids coming out ginger, Sinead gets notice of an upcoming hospital appointment that isn’t ominous at all, and Abi hates poetry.
