Leave it to Finland to find a connection between reading skills and nutritional intake. Researchers studied children in the first and third grade and found that there was a direct correlation with higher reading levels and the amount of vegetables, fruits, fish, and whole grains they consumed. On the contrary, those that ate sugary foods, red meats, and processed carbs did not fair so well. It leaves me to think that children in the US are so far from their actual learning potential. Imagine what they could do if everyone incorporated a healthy diet at home and at school.
