Key Quotes:
“I try to make it as painless as possible for the drivers concerned. At the end of the day, they're our customers from the point of view of the club organizing the meeting”.
‘When I was 14, I started marshalling at Snetterton as a flag marshal/Incident marshal which you could in those days at that age. There were no such things as safety cars, red flags and if there was an incident, we jumped down off the bank and dealt with it right in the middle of the actual race.’
‘It's basically very similar to the race director role in F1. You're having to make decisions based on what you're seeing happen, dealing with sudden changes of circumstance.’
‘I'm not one of those Clerks of the Course that locks myself in a dark room all day and never talks to drivers unless I'm printing out a judicial form with a penalty. What I really enjoy is the part of getting out in the paddock.’
‘I do find is one that helps to build a degree of respect between the competitors and the Clerks in that we actually try to understand their situation.’
‘We want to get the right answers for all the drivers concerned and make sure that everybody gets their full enjoyment of the meeting in the right manner.’

08. Ross Hyett: Le Mans and the thrill of racing
Host Sue Stockdale talks to Ross Hyett, about his memories of racing at the Le Mans 24 Hour race, and what he enjoys about racing in the Pinto category in the Creative Funding Sports 2000 Championship. Over the years Ross Hyett has been on the podium in motorsport over 150 times and has raced over 60 different purpose-built racing cars.
He says racing can be ‘a series of disappointments' and explains why it's vital to get pleasure from the entire process from set-up to the race itself and not just having a focus on winning.
In the 2021 season as well as competing in Sports 2000, he will be racing a Lola T70 for Fox Motorsport in the Masters, Peter Auto and Classic Le Mans: a Jaguar Mk1 at Goodwood Revival with Grant Williams, and a Chevron B16 and Lotus Elan 26R at selected European events.

10. Grant Gibson: A newcomer to Sports 2000
Host, Sue Stockdale talks to Grant Gibson about his reflections of being a newcomer to the Sports 2000 Grid. Grant explains how he prepares for racing his Duratec in a similar way to how he worked in F1.
Originally from near Melbourne, in Australia, Grant started racing at the age of 20, firstly driving a Lotus 23b that his father and brothers had modified by putting a 3.5 litre v8 engine in place of the small Lotus-Ford Twin Cam. He moved to UK in the early 1980s with a plan to learn from F1 and improve his own racing when he returned to Australia. Grant spent almost ten years in F1 working for Benetton, and then Williams as a mechanic for drivers including Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet and Keke Rosberg.
The Sports2000 Championship has been established since 1977 and features four championships - Duratecs, Pintos, Historic Pintos and Mini Enduro.
