The Speaking Out on Sex Abuse Podcast - Episode 35: The Gift of Forgiveness

Episode 35: The Gift of Forgiveness

The Speaking Out on Sex Abuse Podcast
Forgiveness is for the person who carries the debt, not the person who was sinned against. When someone is truly repentant and bears fruit in keeping with repentance, forgiveness is the most important gift the repentant sinner can receive. We cheapen forgiveness when we offer it prematurely or without the sinner repenting.

Episode 34: The Purpose of Unforgiveness

Does the Bible really say that we need to forgive unconditionally? It seems that Jesus had more to say about forgiveness than we realize. He also told his disciples that when they forgive anyone, they will be forgiven. But when they withhold forgiveness, it is withheld. What does that mean? What is the purpose of withholding forgiveness? Find out in this episode!

Episode 36: Repentance Is Central to Forgiveness

Abuse victims are often forced to forgive their abusers, or they are shamed into it. But repentance is a required condition of forgiveness. In fact, repentance is THE central theme of the Gospel. We cannot get away from repentance. Over and over again the scriptures are clear about bearing fruit in keeping with repentance. Yet this is ignored when church leaders talk to survivors of abuse. They are told, "You need to forgive no matter what." This is a far cry from what the scriptures teach.
