11. Marathon Training Tips, Around the Crown 10K, & A Running Video Game
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
04/17/24 • 32 min
With 6 marathons under my feet, I share my 6 best marathon training tips, I discuss the vast sustainability and inclusivity measures that make Charlotte's Around the Crown 10K such a special race beyond just race day, and I unveil a totally awesome running video game that will have you rethink going outside for a run when you can stay comfy on the sofa inside your parents' dark, windowless basement, instead.
- Around the Crown 10K: How do you choose races to run? If you’re like me, you don’t consider a race’s impact on a community, its residents, or the planet. Guided by three pillars—inclusivity, sustainability, and elevating the city of Charlotte—Brian Mister, co-founder and race director of the ATC10K, provides a shining example of the transformative impact a race can have beyond race day.
- 6 Best Marathon Training Tips: Registering for a marathon can be intimidating. Forget running 26.2 miles, training for a marathon is a whole other marathon in and of itself! How can you adequately prepare to toe the starting line with confidence? I prepared a checklist of the greatest marathon training tips. Follow these and you’ll be golden come race day.
- Running Video Game: It sure seems like there's a video game for everything these days: Murdering innocent civilians in Grand Theft Auto, shooting and blowing up enemy soldiers in Call of Duty, and fighting Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden to the death in Mortal Kombat (FINISH HIM!), to name a few. But what about a video game for running?

22. Saucony Endorphin Speed 4, Diversifying Your Shoe Rotation, & All About Running Routes
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
07/03/24 • 30 min
The Size 15 Runner shares his questionable method to diversify a running shoe rotation; he tries his very best to review the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4; and he explains the greatest way to combat running boredom (beyond buying new shoes).
- Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 Review: The Endorphin Speed 4 is practically the same weight as the Speed 3, the midsole still consists of a winged nylon plate and excellent PWRRUN PB (PEBA) foam, it has an identical stack height, and once again includes SPEEDROLL technology. So, what’s changed, then? Let’s find out together!
- Diversifying a Running Shoe Rotation: Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are crucial principles companies use to advance their mission and promote a healthy work culture. Unfortunately, DEI is being hijacked by “Big Running” (not to be confused with “Big Tobacco”) under the guise of helping runners create a well-rounded running shoe rotation. Discover how.
- All About Running Routes: If you ever find yourself looking for running motivation, it’s time to switch up your running routes! A change of scenery can do wonders. Unfortunately, I’m not the most intrepid runner, so, I guess, do as I say, not as I do?
17. Judging Runners, Running vs. Driving, & Fixing Your Appearance After Running
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
05/29/24 • 28 min
The Size 15 Runner contradicts himself countless times while explaining why runners should never judge each other's shoes and gear; he lists the top reasons why running is more exciting than driving; and he presents an all-new drug that's proven to improve runners' physical appearance after their runs. The side effects are...mostly harmless.
- Should You Judge Runners? Confession: I can’t help but check people out when I run. I’m an equal opportunity starer — both men and women catch my wandering eye. But I’m not gawking at their bodies — that'd make me a creep. No, instead, I examine the running gear they choose to wear...and make sure to never judge them. Ok, not never.
- Comparing Running vs. Driving: As a straight male, I’m supposed to drool, mouth agape, over fast cars, loud motorcycles, and anything else with an engine and tires. But I gain far more pleasure from joyful runs than joy rides. Discover why I’d rather tie shoelaces than fasten a seatbelt.
- How Runners Look Before vs. After Running: Everyone looks good BEFORE a run—well, not everyone. But AFTER a run is a different story. Two-Face isn’t just a notorious Batman villain. For runners, it’s the unfortunate condition we’re stricken with, before and then after running. Luckily, I'm here to present an all-new drug that's sure to improve a runner's appearance...with some mild side effects.
20. A Running Sitcom, The Right to Bear Armfuls of Shoes, & Why Easy Runs are So Hard
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
06/19/24 • 31 min
The Size 15 Runner stumbles onto the set of America’s funniest running sitcom for an underwhelming cameo; he regrettably enters the “great shoe debate” as he defends his right to bear arms—full of running shoes; and he inadequately explains why easy runs are the most misleading workouts.
- The Right to Bear Armfuls of Shoes: What side of the shoe debate are you on? Despite justifying my running shoe addiction to friends, family, and colleagues, I still get judged each time I purchase a new pair to add to my arsenal. It’s my God-given right to bear arms—full of running shoes, and they’ll have to pry ‘em from my feet if they want to take ‘em from my running shoe rotation. Find out why...or don't.
- America’s Funniest Running Sitcom: An all-new season of the funniest running sitcom returns, with a season premiere so laugh-out-loud funny it’ll make you LOL...out loud! Plus, I make the world’s shortest, weirdest, most lackluster, most unearned cameo. This is one season you may want to miss!
- Why Easy Runs are So Hard: Ah, the “easy” run. Also known as a recovery run, it’s perhaps the most misnamed form of exercise. It’s the mirage of the training plan. From afar it sure looks like an oasis—we’re running a shorter distance at a slower pace, with no pressure to perform. But as many runners know, there’s more to it than meets the eye when our shoe rubber meets the road.
19. How Running Shoes are Like Albums, The Definitive Running Rules, & Why Running on a Track isn’t Horrible
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
06/12/24 • 32 min
The Size 15 Runner sheepishly lists the top 5 reasons why the release of new running shoes is eerily similar to the release of new albums (reasons 1-5 just may shock you); he shares his questionable Running Rules: The Rules of Running: The Ultimate, Definitive, Absolutely Most Trustworthy Guide to Running; and he describes why the track is a runner’s playground (minus the fights at recess).
- How New Shoes and Albums are Similar: Recently, I was eagerly anticipating the release of a new album from one of my favorite artists. It got me thinking about how the wait for the release feels eerily similar to the thrill of a pair of new running shoes releasing. Discover the top 5 reasons why these two exciting events are not so different—they’re...similar.
- The Track is a Runner’s Playground: I used to view running on a track as the most soul-sucking (and sole-sucking) form of trotting, just a pinky toe’s length less horrible than the heinous treadmill. Running on a track is monotonous, predictable, and basic—three adjectives that also describe me—which is exactly why I’ve come to love it.
- The Definitive Running Rules: Rules are made to be broken, but not The Size 15 Runner’s Running Rules: The Rules of Running: The Ultimate, Definitive, Absolutely Most Trustworthy Guide to Running. The only thing you’ll be breaking by following The Running Rules: The Rules of Running: The Ultimate, Definitive, Absolutely Most Trustworthy Guide to Running ...is PRs.
18. Run Like Nobody’s Watching, New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4, & Why Shoe Uppers Matter
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
06/05/24 • 33 min
The Size 15 Runner awkwardly debates whether runners should run like nobody (or no one) is watching; he reviews the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4; and he inadequately explains why shoe uppers actually matter.
- New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4: The New Balance FuelCell Rebel v3 was one of my least favorite running shoes in recent memory. I only racked up about 30 miles in the shoe before I racked the shoe on my shoe rack, or, rather, in the heaping pile of other shoes on my closet floor. What a difference a yearly update makes! Find out why v4 has become one of my favorites. Or don't.
- Run Like Nobody’s Watching: You’ve heard the saying, “Dance like nobody’s watching.” As a running nerd, I thought about the idea of running like nobody's watching. What would that look like? Do I run like no one is watching? Is it even possible to run, dance, or do anything without either consciously or subconsciously altering your behavior in the presence of others?
- Why Shoe Uppers Matter: While runners base their opinion of a running shoe primarily on how it feels underfoot, the way the top of the shoe feels is sometimes just as important. Don’t buy it? Well, I'll make you buy it!
21. Best Running Shoe Foams, HOKA Skyward X Review, & Rent-a-Running-Buddy
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
06/26/24 • 33 min
The Size 15 Runner uses a questionable method to rank the top running shoe foams from the top companies; he does a poor job reviewing HOKA’s behemoth carbon-plated super trainer—the Skyward X; and he introduces his new Rent-a-Running-Buddy service in which he’ll run with anyone...for a price...a very high price.
- Comparing the Top Shoe Foams: The most important component of a running shoe is the midsole foam. No one cares about the outsole, upper, and especially not the asinine heel pull tab. I ask yet again: how difficult is it to put on and take off a pair of running shoes? So, how can you choose the best running shoe foams to match your picky preferences? You can’t.
- HOKA Skyward X Review: The Goleta, CA-based company describes their Skyward X shoe as an experience that feels “entirely new and unmistakably HOKA.” They certainly made no mistakes here, except, maybe, on the looks. But when your biggest gripe with a shoe is the way it looks sitting on the shelf, rather than how it moves on the roads, it’s a great pair. But how does the super-sized super trainer perform on the trails? No idea—it’s not a trail shoe.
- Rent-a-Running-Buddy: Finding a running partner is even more difficult than finding a life partner. Fortunately, I’m here to introduce my new running service in which you pay me to go running with you. I’ll be miserable the entire time we’re running, but my wallet sure won’t be. Just promise you won’t fall head over heels for me?
16. Most Innovative Running Shoes, "Running Shark Tank", & Old Port Half Marathon
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
05/22/24 • 29 min
The Size 15 Runner stumbles into the Shark Tank with a product so revolutionary that it leaves the Sharks speechless; he rambles about the most innovative running shoe pairs; and he recaps his Old Port Half Marathon experience in Portland, Maine.
- Most Innovative Running Shoes: A pair of two different running shoes?! You better believe it! Check out one running company’s “shoe trailer” launching the most innovative pair ever while trying desperately to pander to every single runner.
- "Running Shark Tank": I pitch my innovative product that will change running shoes for the better...forever. It's time to say goodbye to pull tabs! "Goodbye, pull tabs!"
- Old Port Half Marathon: At the front of the pack with no racers in sight, I began the Old Port Half Marathon with a bang! I always wondered what it'd feel like to lead a race; I never thought it was possible. Wait, why are there no racers behind me? Oh, that’s right — I started the race a solid 10 minutes late.
15. Busting Running Myths, What I Wish I Knew Before Running, & How Running Routes Impact Mindset
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
05/15/24 • 29 min
I separate running fact from fiction by debunking the top 5 running myths; I answer the one thing I wish I knew before starting to run nearly 20 years ago; and I detail how the setting of a running route impacts a runner's mindset.
- Running Shoe Reviews, Reviewed: How can you truly know if a shoe review is trustworthy? You can’t. Fortunately, The Size 15 Runner is proud to launch his all-new service: “Running Shoe Reviews, Reviewed.” He doesn't review running shoes—no, no, that’s child’s play. He goes one step further and he reviews other people’s reviews of running shoes.
- Top 5 Running Myths: It’s often said there are a hundred reasons not to do something. When it comes to running, people seem to have a thousand reasons not to trot, backed by strange assumptions, faulty logic, and absolutely no evidence. What can you say, people are stupid. Look how smart I am when I debunk the biggest running myths.
- What I Wish I Knew Before Running: I see an increasing number of articles, YouTube videos, and Instagram posts chronicling what runners wish they had known before starting to run. After taking time to reflect on my running journey, I came to a rather simple but powerful answer...
- How Routes Impact Our Mindset: Running is one of the greatest ways to discover new roads, neighborhoods, trails, the best views, and any other part of the setting we call home. But, often times, we don’t have to stray from our beaten path to find a new perspective. Learn how different running routes can work wonders for us.
23. Seven Sins of Running, Benefits of Running with Music and Podcasts, & Optimizing Your Hydration
The Size 15 Runner Podcast
07/10/24 • 30 min
The Size 15 Runner accidently stumbles upon the Seven Deadly Sins of Running; he ineffectually lists the benefits of running with music, podcasts, and silence; and, he details the various pros—and cons—of a revolutionary hydration method—drinking water!
- Seven Sins of Running: The Seven Deadly Sins of Running are unearthed, shaking the running world to its very core. From wrath to lust and everything in between, avoid these running vices like the Bubonic plague. Come for the running bible study, stay for the random music references. Brad Pitt voice: “What’s in the box?!”
- Benefits of Running with Music & Podcasts: As much as I love running, I still need a good podcast episode to keep me entertained for the long haul on those long runs. Or a “beast mode” playlist to help me tame that “beast” of a speed workout. Knowing I can take my mind off running and get lost in a good discussion or a memorable verse to help pass the miles is all I need to pass through my front door. Promise not to judge what I listen to?
- Optimizing Your Hydration: There’s an innovative hydration method that’s taking the world by storm—quite literally! It’s got only two ingredients, it’s 100% natural, and has no preservatives, parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. But, consuming the proper amount can prove to be quite difficult.
