Nowadays hockey players are bonafide celebrities, and they receive the same praise and adoration as the likes of musicians and movie starts.
However, it wasn't really until the 1970s that NHL players were seen in the same circles as the world's most popular people.
At the forefront of this movement was this week's guest on the podcast: Ron Duguay. He's a man who was written about as often in the tabloids as he was in the sports section, and he relished every minute of it.
He joins us to talk about what it was like creating an image for himself, and for the league, both on and off the ice.
You can find his podcast "Up in the Blue Seats: A NY Rangers Podcast" alongside Mollie Walker and Larry Brooks on any podcast platform!
