The Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast
Annapolis Sailboat Show!

Welcome to this episode of The Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP) number 192 from the Spring Sailboat Show in Annapolis. Warning ahead of time, all of the interviews are contaminated with interference noise from god knows what. You would think I would have figured this out by now, that half the time I do interviews with my recorder space mics, that I pic up the interference. I think its pretty specific to the Annapolis area. I thought about not releasing this material, but decided the work around in post was not fantastic, but good enough for interested folks to get through.

NOT charging for this one, for all of you patrons out there, but I hope you all can get through it.

First we Talk with Gareth from East Coast Sailboats who are US dealers for the BirdyFish foiling sailboat. It looks like a scaled down version of the IMOCA 60’s that run the round the world races. It is a crazy fast small boat that takes the sport into the next generation.

We then talk to Jim, from the Lightning Fleet based at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, all about the one design fleet that competes all around the world. The lightning is one of the only small boats I’ve actually ever sailed on, back when I was invited to the Susquehanna Yacht Club.

Next we speak to Joe from Jetty Clothing. I found Jetty at the boat show a couple of years ago, with some great shirts made with Oystex, a fiber blend of pulverized Oyster Shells and recycled polyester. They have an interesting selection of clothing and accessories for you to check out.

Finally we have a chat with Ed Pickering, the Broker with the Beard of S&J Yachts, and co-host of the Funny Boat Podcast. He went on some adventures recently attending the Odyssey Sailing Festival in the BVI, as well as the Chasing Bubbles Regatta.

HPYC Burning of the Socks 2025

Welcome to this episode of The Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP)! This time around we burn some socks for the equinox, as Hances Point Yacht Club celebrates their opening day festivities in 2025. It’s been almost Ten years since we’ve recorded one of these ceremonies. We also speak with Jim and Jessie, now that they’ve upgraded to a 36ft boat, we are introduced to Ray and Kerry and talk to them about upgrading to a 38ft Catalina, we also get updates from Luke and Julie! The band is the Sin City Band, and the bagpiper is named Duncan Moore. We have speeches from HPYC members Chris, Tom, and Cherie. At the end of the podcast we play an Earth Day tribute from the RJ Phillips Band, “Listen to the Birds.” We also pay tribute to passed members Bob Stringfellow, Jack Chun, and former podcast guest Dr. Jim Bailey.
