101. Staying Intentional To Prevent Burnout with Evan Freed
10/27/23 β’ 37 min
Intentional journeys and vacations allow you to experience the world around you and discover your truest self.
Evan Freed is a founder of Family Journey. Evan believes in intentional travel experiences as well as intentional communication and healthy relationships, which in turn allow a person to avoid burnout. He likens intentional communication with incomplete information while on vacation surrounded by a language different to our own, to communication within entrepreneurship.
The goal of an intentional vacation is to be changed, to take things which are experienced back home, in order to incorporate it into daily life. Taking time to rest is imperative for oneβs wellbeing, however rest should just be rest on its own, not a precursor to working even harder.
Being and staying intentional is not an easy option in life, so give yourself some grace and create space to make the changes you need to.

Taking Action To Overcome βClimate Emotionsβ Effects on Our Mental Well-Being with Sarah Newman
Taking action is an excellent way to counter the negative mental health impact of the climate crisis. Sarah Newman is the founder and executive director of the Climate Mental Health Network, where she helps to address the mental health consequences of climate change. We are all stuck living in a system that contributes to the climate crisis, but there are ways we can engage with it that can help support positive change. Sharing stories is a critical strategy that can help connect people, spread the message, and spark change in the overarching systems that are impacting the climate. There are many other roles and opportunities available that we can seek out to become a catalyst for change, and if we work together intergenerationally, we can chip away at the systems that are responsible for the environmental issues we are facing. If your mental health is suffering due to the climate crisis, get involved, and let the hope for a better future motivate you!
π Sarah is the executive director of The Climate Mental Health Network, founded in 2021: we can engage in the climate crisis in a nourishing, and not overwhelming way. 02:49
ποΈ The movie An Inconvenient Truth had an incredible impact on Sarah: critical stories can shape and influence conversations and spark change at the individual and system levels. 10:04
π It takes all of us to chip away in order to change the system: it's not about everyone needing to be out in the street like Greta Thunberg - there are so many different models and ways to engage. 13:22
β
Having many different perspectives and voices together gives more strength and wisdom: young people don't like isolation when dealing with climate emotions. 16:40
πΆ There's a range of ways people experience the mental health impacts caused by climate and data clearly shows the negative ones: Americans believe in climate change, but there are still the bully voices. 19:24
π₯° If you feel a sense of powerlessness or hopelessness because of the climate crisis, one of the most important buffers is taking action and self-care. 24:36
β€οΈ You can't lose hope!: if you don't have hope, what's motivating you? 29:52
