The Sea Has Many Voices
Pulitzer Prize winner Jared Diamond joins Greg Stone to share their passion for the ocean and how it has shaped our human condition. As a renowned historian, Jared discusses how man started to branch out and expand their world by island hopping, thereby creating new cultures in the Mediterranean and South Pacific. Their conversation continues to explore the origin of languages, customs, mapmaking, all connected to man’s relationship with the ocean and the need to push out beyond the horizon. Dr. Diamond points out that the ocean was not only about exploration, but the richness of the seacoast accelerated man’s permanent settled living, which was a leap in the day to day existence of humans historically. Dr. Diamond and Dr. Stone’s long standing friendship is apparent as the two wander comfortably with anecdotes and observations gathered from a lifetime of discovery and curiosity. Join acclaimed oceanographer and conservationist Dr. Greg Stone on a journey of understanding and hope through our oceans with The Sea Has Many Voices podcast: https://theseahasmanyvoices.com/ Greg Stone has been an advocate for ocean conservation, sustainable industry, and marine research for decades. Spreading these ideas requires conversation and collaboration if we want environmental sustainability. Follow Greg Stone! [E3] Wyland — Artist

“Art can bring a message as nothing else can.” For more than forty years artist Wyland has been communicating his love of the ocean and its inhabitants through his artwork. Sitting down with his old friend Greg Stone, Wyland describes how working with millions of kids throughout the world painting life-size murals of the creatures of the sea has created a new generation of advocates for the ocean. “My investment has always been with young people, if we can share what we know through art and science, we can inspire them to become ambassadors to our planet.” Wyland has completed his mission to create 100 “Whaling Walls” across the globe to raise awareness about the wonder of the ocean’s resources. His next project is to create 100 monumental sculptures in 100 great cities, with ten being underwater. An ambitious agenda? Yes! But Wyland has always thought big. Just marvel at his life-size whales on a wall near you!
