EP 015 - The Breath Series: The Chemistry (Part Three) w/ Kieran Maguire
10/04/23 • 45 min
The final part of this three part series is finally here!
So far we have discussed the mechanics and neuroscience of breathing and today we tick off the chemistry portion of breathing.
Simply put, breathing is an exchange in gases, oxygen and carbon dioxide. But that exchange in gases impacts so many different aspects of how we function and feel.
We take a deep dive into the importance of balancing between enough oxygen and carbon dioxide and why carbon dioxide isn’t the bad guy after all.
If you missed any of the other episodes, please check them out above.

EP 014 - The Breath Series: The Neuroscience (Part Two) w/ Kieran Maguire
THE NEUROSCIENCE ABOUT HOW WE BREATHE
In the last episode, we covered all things breathing mechanics. In this episode, Kieran goes in depth about the neuroscience around the importance of breathing and how this impacts our overall health.
Our bodies are essentially governed by our nervous systems and one way we can directly influence which system is dominating is through our breath. We can increase our 'readiness' and 'arousal' through breathing but we can also settle down and calm ourselves through our breathing.
This is part two of our three part series about breathing. If you missed the earlier episode, make sure you listen to that and stay tuned for part three.

EP 016 - The Training Ecosystem at Science of Fitness
In this episode, Matt and Kieran discuss the evolution of the group fitness classes that are offered at Science of Fitness.
Growing from high intensity 'primal' sessions, which was the foundation for the rest of the group fitness classes, Science of Fitness has evolved into a one stop shop for all your health and fitness desires. With yoga, pilates, and strength and conditoning classes being the base with specialty classes like breathing, core and move all complimenting this.
We discuss the importance of longevity when it comes to health and fitness and why smashing yourself all day, every day in strength classes or high intensity classes may be doing more harm then good.
Doing the hard work which may look like actually slowing down and completing a yoga or breathing class, is what a lot of people may actually need.
