The Scaling To Business Success Podcast11/14/23 • 25 min
Welcome to Episode 20 of the Scaling to Business Success Podcast! This week's episode is about helping you overcome the dreaded imposter syndrome as an online buisness coach, and it's something a lot of coaches deal with, especially those who are still working 9-5 jobs.
Let's dive in!
Imposter syndrome will have you looking at life differently, and it will also have you thinking that you aren't worthy of doing something you absolutely love because you're "not qualified". I used to have these same thoughts when I was focused on teaching YouTube a few years ago.
I felt that because I didn't have a ton of subscribers or a ton of views on my channel and videos, I wasn't worthy of teaching others how to have success on the YouTube platform. I remember doing a five-day challenge to help other entrepreneurs start their YouTube channels, and I only had 212 subscribers on my channel, wondering WHY IN THE WORLD were people taking action from all of the daily content I was helping them take action on.
I don't want you to have the same feelings that I had, and I want to help you put a stop to it right now.
2024 is on the way, and it's time that we start working to uncover the imposter syndrome, and figuring out how we can make this work so that we can start being more successful with our businesses and being a successful online coach.
I want to share my thoughts with you in this episode.
Let's get into it!
In this episode you'll hear:
- Understand WHERE the imposter voice is coming from. When it comes to having imposter syndrome, and you're looking at all of the competitors in your niche, you have to figure out where the imposter voice is coming from. Is the voice from a place of jealousy because they have what you don't have, or is it truly because you don't feel qualified to do what you are called to do? We are all put on this earth to do something in a way that helps others and makes us feel good about the work that we do. If you're focused on others and not having your blinders on when it comes to your business, the comparison bug will kick in and it will stop you before you even had a chance to do the work. Understand where your imposter voice is coming from, and understand why it's there and why is it stopping you from being successful with your business.
- Keep failure in perspective. All of the failures you've had in life are here to show you the correct way in how you should be operating. Many people see failures as literally a failure. They see it as the end goal of something when it's really trying to help you go down a different path. Failures are teaching moments, and if you're not learning anything from the failures that have come about as you've grown your business over the years, then you're not growing as a person. Just because you tried something once and it didn't work doesn't mean that it's the end. Life is trying to tell you that you're supposed to take another path and keep going! Keep your failures in perspective, and this will help you to overcome the imposter syndrome.
- Practice self-compassion. As business coaches, we don't give ourselves enough credit for all of the work that we do. Self-compassion is all about helping you feel good about the work you do, who you serve and how you're helping them on a daily basis. Be happy about the results that you have, whether they are good or bad. When you celebrate yourself and all that you do, things will start to look up for you and the imposter syndrome will slowly start to disappear.
- Reframe your mind around growth. Growth is inevitable, and if you're doing the right things to grow, then growth will happen. Creating a business while still working your 9-5 job is hard, and it's difficult when you can't see how or when the growth is going to happen. Always have a growth mindset when it comes to your business. This will help you to see that there are PLENTY of opportunities available to help you grow and become a better version of yourself.
- Write down your fears. When I did my very first 5-day challenge in 2018, one of the exercises was to help others overcome their fear of being on camera and their fear of being on YouTube. This was a fun exercise because it was something that I did for myself before I started creating online courses and programs around the topic. What I want you to do is to grab a sheet of paper, and write down all the fears you have about growing your business and putting yourself out there. Once you've done that, feel free to burn it (in a safe space!) or rip it up into tiny pieces and throw it in the trash. Writing down your fears allows you to be aware of them and why they're holding you back from sharing your greatness with the world. But in order to do this, you have to write them down so you can see how long these fears have been holding you captive and allowing the imposter syndrome to come into your life. DM me a p...
