What would you do if you discovered your child was caught in the deceptive web of the Troubled Teen Industry? In this emotional episode, we have the privilege of speaking with Coleen, a brave mother who shares her heart-wrenching experience of trying to help her son, only to be led astray by an educational consultant insisting that wilderness therapy was the only option. Little did she know, this would lead her family down a traumatic path through a world riddled with deception and hidden abuse.
Coleen opens up about the harsh realities her son had to endure in the wilderness therapy program, as well as the struggles they faced with therapy, testing, and legal challenges due to her ex-husband's tie-breaking decision-making rights. As parents ourselves, it's difficult to hear the pain and frustration in Ashley's story, but her courage in sharing it is a testament to her love and dedication to her child. This conversation sheds light on the broader issues surrounding the Troubled Teen Industry, exposing the deceptive practices that these programs employ and the lasting trauma they can inflict on innocent families.
Join us in this enlightening and important episode as we explore the dark truth behind the Troubled Teen Industry and offer hope for a better future for our children. We'll discuss the power of believing in and supporting our children, as well as the strength of community in advocating for change. Could you imagine using "no" as a complete sentence and feeling liberated rather than guilty? We promise that by the end of this episode, you'll see boundary-setting as a transformative act of self-care and self-respect. We explore the crucial role boundaries play across all life dynamics, from romantic entanglements to professional environments, and how they can empower us to prioritize our well-being. Hear from Emily, a dedicated ER nurse, as she shares her personal struggles and breakthroughs in maintaining her boundaries amidst the chaos of her demanding job. Through her story, and others, we unravel the art of communicating your needs clearly while nurturing healthy relationships.
Boundaries aren't just about saying "no"—they're about reclaiming your personal space and redefining your interactions. From overcoming people-pleasing tendencies to understanding the risks of neglecting your own needs, we dive into the profound impact of setting clear limits. We discuss insightful strategies like using "I" statements and pausing to reflect on whether our choices genuinely align with our desires. As we navigate through the nuances of professional and personal boundaries, we underscore the importance of self-worth and self-care, offering practical advice on maintaining consistency even in the face of pushback.
Join us as we celebrate stories of transformation, like that of Riley, a talented graphic designer from Austin, who found freedom and growth by prioritizing self-care. Her journey illuminates how respecting your own boundaries leads to healthier relationships and greater self-respect. We wrap up by expressing our heartfelt gratitude to our listeners and encourage you to embrace the ongoing journey of healing and personal growth.
