As The Paramedic Coach, the most common questions I get involve passing the NREMT exam. This includes every level of EMS certification, EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic. EMS educators this is great video to share with students prior to the end of classes, so your students know what to expect prior to the NREMT cognitive examination.
So I sat down and complied a list of the most frequently asked questions about the NREMT exam that I get and made this video for you. I want to make sure you are prepared for your upcoming NREMT exam.
Many of questions involve the NREMT exam itself, what to do if you failed an NREMT exam and what to study prior to taking the NREMT exam.
I look forward to seeing your success on NREMT!

As you enter Paramedic school you are faced with a decision. Do you pursue the certificate in paramedic studies or the associate degree in paramedic studies?
I first share with you exactly what I did so you have some background information on why I did what I did in regards to the paramedic studies degree.
The paramedic studies certificate is usually about half the college credits of the paramedic studies associate degree. You can look up your local community college and see what they have to offer with enrollment in paramedic school.
My hope is that this video can help point you in the right direction if you are on the fence of entering paramedic school or if you can't choose what program to start with.

When figuring out what first responder career is right for you, many new students get stuck on whether to become a firefighter or a paramedic on the ambulance service. Some start their career by being on a volunteer fire department while others try to volunteer at their local ambulance corps.
Which ever path you want to take the first step I recommend to everyone is your EMT class, that gives you a foot in the door in both professions, then based on your experiences, where you want to live, and the options presented to you, you can make a decision on the fire department or stick with EMS completely.
I discuss in this video the main differences between working as a firefighter and working as a paramedic, my aim is that this video puts you on the right path. One key note, if you are brand new is that aiming for your Paramedic certification in some fire departments, this alone can make you a stand out candidate to join.
For those of you that already possess fire certifications, gaining a EMS certification and going through EMT school or Paramedic school can help you a ton with getting hired.
Let me know in the comments, what your goals are whether it is the fire service or the ambulance service and what you are doing currently, would love to hear your stories!

Paramedic school is commonly the second school that an EMS provider will attend. Most people will enter EMS as an EMT, start working or volunteering their time, then set their sights on Paramedic school.
Becoming a paramedic can open the door to more job opportunities and possible placement in area fire departments.
I sat down and jotted down the 5 things that I tell every new paramedic student and every EMT who is thinking about joining a local paramedic college or university.
My hope is that every EMT who has either just started paramedic school or those about to join takes the action steps laid out in this video, it will make the entire process so much easier.

The national registry of emergency medical technicians (NREMT) is the body that certifies EMTs and Paramedics in the United States. I made a video in late May commenting on a recent article on the NREMT website. The NREMT in June was planning to unveil a new scoring report.
It is now August and we have seen the new scoring reports in action which combines the new scoring feedback for failed NREMT candidates with the old scoring report of: above passing, near passing and below passing.
Reminder if you pass your NREMT, you won't get any feedback from national registry besides the congratulations that you passed your exam.

This video explains how to get started working on the ambulance service (EMS) and describes the ranks and certification levels of the NREMT. I recommend skipping EMR and jumping right into EMT school as this is true "entry-level" position in a paid ambulance position.
Once you gain field experience, working your way from IFT (inter-facility transport) to getting 911 field experience you make the decision whether you want to go to AEMT or Paramedic school to increase your skills, and salary in EMS.
The benefits of becoming a paramedic include increased salary, more job opportunities, higher responsibility and leadership on EMS scenes and increased training opportunities such as becoming a community paramedic, tactical paramedic or flight/critical care paramedic. But before we jump to paramedic school we need to get field experience and have a solid foundation with basic life support care and ambulance operations.
I hope this video gives you some insight into the schooling and daily life of working as an EMR, EMT, AEMT or Paramedic! On this channel, I help EMS students prepare for school, pass school and pass NREMT exams. Join us for a lesson!

I wanted to create a video where I could highlight all the different types of jobs and positions EMTs and Paramedic work in. If you are gaining experience and eager about maximizing your certifications this video is for you.
I cover the traditional roles of an EMT or Paramedic while also covering some interesting EMS jobs that you may not even know existed!
Fire department EMS versus Emergency medical services is not the only career path you can take with your NREMT certification. With all these extra roles and responsibilities, I will always recommend you eventually getting your Paramedic certification as that combined with 911 experience will grant you access to the most opportunity.
Let me know what type of EMS job you currently have and what your plans are for the future!

The NREMT exam is the examination that certifies emergency medical technicians and paramedics. This includes the EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic national registry exams. My aim with this presentation is to give you a concise study plan that you can use to comeback after failing NREMT.
We do this by reviewing the national registry content, assessing your knowledge along the way and reviewing NREMT practice questions. At The Paramedic Coach, we have thousands of NREMT candidates pass their national registry exam even after multiple failed attempts.
The NREMT exam is broken down into five main parts: Airway, respiration, and ventilation (ARV), cardiology and resuscitation, trauma, medical/OBGYN and EMS operations. At the advanced EMT and paramedic levels we also add a speciality question area called: Clinical Judgement. This is the content areas we need to study to pass the NREMT exam.
As The Paramedic Coach, I am always here to help, let's pass the NREMT!

Going from EMT to Paramedic is the biggest career jump you will make in the EMS profession. EMT class is typically 12 weeks, while Paramedic college can be minimum 14-18 months, most are two years in program length.
When working on the ambulance, I always enjoyed working with partners who were EMTs that were in Paramedic school as I could teach and assist them while we were at work. This video is condensed version of how I would help my EMT partner transition into becoming and thinking like a paramedic would.
I'm aware that not every EMT wants to become a Paramedic, and we all know EMTs save Paramedics BUT if you know in your heart of hearts that you want to serve your community as a Paramedic and make the jump. This video is made for you.
