In this episode, Kim Walsh Phillips and Mike Stodola talk about their best hacks they use when they are at a marketing event as well as some key takeaways they got from the last event they went to.

Key Takeaways!

  • When Kim goes to an event, she likes to rent out a suite so that she can bring people back to it afterwards and work on building a relationship with them, outside of the marketing and sales environment. This allows her to really get to know the people at the conference with her in a more personal way, so that she can grow both her business and her relationship with them. (1:14)
  • Another “event hack” that Kim has is that she gets a room on the club level, which you can get if you’re a premium member through most hotel chains. You can utilize the club level during events by inviting people to join you there for lunch, cocktail hour, etc. The ability to entertain your guests in a more secluded area is very nice especially at a busy conference. (5:07)
  • When you rent a suite, DON’T use room service to cater your events because it can get very pricey. Instead cater from: (6:55)
    • Wine.com. This website allows you order your wine for cheap and you can get it shipped ahead of time to your suite.
    • InstaCart. This app or online website allows you to get small finger foods for super cheap, which is all that people really want at cocktail parties.
  • Mike was reminded at the conference of the 3 basic things that an ad needs to have: (9:27)
    • An Attention-Grabbing Headline. The purpose of this is to catch the attention of the audience and make them want to read the rest of the ad. To do this, make sure your headline includes who the product/service is for and what the outcome of using this product/service will be.
    • An Offer. There should be an offer and a way to respond, so that they know what their next step is.
    • A Deadline. You need to give them a time when the offer will expire, in order to create urgency.
