Sarah Malone: Elite athlete and trainer helps people find their "Spark" and fall in love with fitness
10/20/21 • 44 min
Sarah "Sparks" Malone discusses training people to be the best versions of themselves and how she helps people move past fear to find purpose, drive, and energy to live their best, healthiest life. She also tells her method of using her struggles as kindling to her mission and passion – to get people to love fitness.
Tailored Program
Everyone is different. There is no cookie-cutter program when it comes to fitness, so it differs for each. As a coach, Sarah’s job is to make sure that the program her clients are following is only enough for them. Her goal is to make people fall in love with fitness. The rationale behind this is that when people implement fitness in their daily lives, they discover so much about themselves and become more of who they are created to be. Sarah explains that fitness goes beyond the physical aspect; it is also a science of associating positive emotions with what they do. Having the right program makes or breaks a person’s outlook towards fitness. If they are given something more than they can handle, they tend to look at fitness in a bad light. This ultimately does not reach the goal of having people fall in love with fitness. Longevity is also important too. The purpose of fitness, after all, is to live the highest quality of life as long as possible.

Rosada Plummer: IFBB Pro Bikini Bodybuilder share the healthy way to Prep and Compete.
IFBB Pro Bikini Bodybuilder Rosada Plummer explains how clearing distractions and negativity helps her stay focused when prepping for a bodybuilding show. In this episode, Rosada shares how she became a bodybuilder, her struggles, and how she prepares mentally and physically for big competitions. She also breaks down her best practices to be more successful, focused, and a one's best.
Stick to the Routine
Bodybuilding takes discipline and focus on maintaining physique. Rosada competes in the bikini division, and it is all about symmetry; the shape of the body matters. The muscle tone should be defined, and in this division, they do certain poses: front, side, and back. These poses are where the symmetry is zoned in, and the muscle mass up top needs to be symmetrical to the muscle mass at the bottom. As for most physical competitions, participants are categorized according to age, height, and weight. To maintain her physique, Rosada sticks to her routine. Diet is an essential element in bodybuilding, so she spends time and energy in the kitchen preparing her meals as much as she spends time training in the gym. She says that balance plays a significant role in her day-to-day routine. Rosada is strict in counting her calorie intake to keep her weight at a level needed for her competition. Cardio training also depends on her physique, so she has to make adjustments from time to time. It takes commitment to become a bodybuilder. Rosada is one of the many who are more than just the muscle.

Solocast: Barton talks how to create lasting habits, upgrading our mindset, and the first Anniversary of the Mindset Forge.
Barton speaks on how to create lasting habits, surrounding yourself with positive, high-performing people who can help you level up, and his thoughts on the first 12 months of the Mindset Forge Podcast. 27 episodes in, Barton also talks about the future of the podcast and challenges the listener to implement ONE new habit the right way.
Backstory about Barton:
Barton lives in Austin, TX with his wife Valerie and their 7 year old son, Jack. Barton's been a personal trainer for 13 years. Barton and his family love outdoor hikes, traveling, and living a healthy lifestyle. His background in the arts, sports, and working in Africa all inform his unique perspective.
Barton hung up his basketball shoes after high school and decided to pursue music; specifically vocal performance. He never sang at Davis High School, but when he arrived in San Diego, CA for college, he went for it! Barton sang in operas like "Marriage of Figaro" and "La Boheme," took acting classes, and performed a solo concert to receive his BA in Music. Before graduation, he spent a year in Aix-en-Provence studying French and traveling Europe and North Africa. Barton's two trips to Morocco instilled in him a curiosity and profound respect for the diverse cultures of West Africa. Once back in the US, he applied for the Peace Corps so he could travel back to Africa and immerse himself in the culture and learn about their way of life. Barton spent two years in Diadjibine, a small village of 2,500 people in Southern Mauritania, West Africa. As a Peace Corp volunteer, he taught English, helped build water pumps, and started a solar-powered computer center. The time in Mauritania shaped Barton's mindset on the importance of community, teamwork, leadership, and supporting hard-working people who don't have the resources Americans have at their fingertips.
After Peace Corps, Barton moved to New York City to pursue singing and acting. He was accepted into the Maggie Flanigan Studio and spent two years studying Meisner technique and writing a one man show about what he learned as a Peace Corps in West Africa. His show opened up new doors for him and he performed it around the country. On one of his trips, he traveled to Austin, TX where he met Valerie. Barton moved to Austin after graduating from the Acting Studio and four months later, they were married.
When Barton moved to Austin in 2007, he became a personal trainer. concurrently, Barton created a voluntourism company taking people to East and West Africa to do volunteer work and enjoying Safaris. He was introduced to Camp Gladiator in 2012 and his love for performing and passion for fitness made Camp Gladiator a perfect fit. He sold his tour company and went all in to his new role with Camp Gladiator.
The Mindset Forge Podcast is Barton's newest passion. Barton hopes the podcast will help people find the tools and inspiration to go after the things in life that matter most to them. He deliberately chooses guests from a variety of athletic and artistic backgrounds to help listeners gain multiple perspective of how they show up big for performance and how we can too.
