Did you have to fight for your milk supply? Did you have to fight to make choices for your baby that you felt were right in the hospital and during the postpartum period? Did the stress of the postpartum period inhibit your milk supply? Think about how regularly this applies in any ordinary circumstance, and then add to that the stress of being a transgender man choosing to feed his baby his own milk in a place where even the medical professionals who were supposed to be providing healthcare often gave biased information and refused to provide evidence based lactation care.
On this episode you will hear:
  • The decision to feed human milk to a human baby
  • The inspiring story of Tanius’s primary supporter (hint: it was NOT a professional)
  • The persistence of increasing milk supply and attempting to latch
  • The impact of stress on milk supply and latching
  • Feeding human milk in public
  • Transgender specific difficulties with chestfeeding/breastfeeding/nursing

Vicki was a NICU Nurse helping people learn to breastfeed for 5 years before she had her own breastfeeding experience. She thought with all of her knowledge of breastfeeding and milk supply that it would go easily for her. Her heart broke when that was not the case and she struggled with low milk supply. She was doing everything right, feeding on demand, pumping to increase supply, and her milk only decreased over time. She felt defeated. It was so hard for her to return to work, but to her surprise, she found healing in helping others feed their babies. It was two years after her youngest was done breastfeeding that she learned the underlying cause of her low milk supply. To join The Milk Making Minutes Facebook Group to reduce breastfeeding anxiety and build your confidence and be apart of a community that gets it, click here.To get individualized lactation support from me, Lo-- go here!Follow me on IG @milkmakingminutespodcast

Amy was a NICU nurse before she was a parent, and she still didn’t know what she didn’t know when it came to breastfeeding. She has five human milk feeding experiences to share, all VERY DIFFERENT. From the perfect first experience to low supply to the second, most likely due to a stressful work environment and a misunderstanding about the difference between pumping supply and at-the-body supply, to exclusive pumping for surrogate twins and then having two more babies both with painful latches as a result of tongue tie.On this episode you will hear themes related to:
  • Being dismissed by lactation consultants
  • The impact a work environment can have on supply
  • Learning more as you go
  • Self-compassion
  • Importance of proper flange sizing for good pumping milk supply
