It was a pleasure to welcome Jim Knights (Guitars) & Chris Taylor (Vocals) of Manchester based The Leviathan onto the show for the first time. The Leviathan, who play extreme based metal with a healthy dose of doom infused groove, released the well received 'In Darkness It Crawls' on August 22, 2013 and then went on a hiatus for a couple of years. Members moved on to different projects and some dropped entirely out the scene. Jim however kept the fire lit throughout and finally the band returned with three killer singles in three months this year. More so a project that a functioning band at the moment, Jim got Chris of Cairns to do vocals and Darren of Haint to do bass/vocals on the new releases. We run through the story of The Leviathan from the very beginning, where Chris and Jim met in university, right up to recording together this year. The lads have plenty of great insights and stories from their various bands and there's even a Christmas cover song to discover. Hope you enjoy the episode and 'SUBSCRIBE' to the channel.

Episode 343: The Metal Cell Forums Live Stream May 2025. Topic: “Metallica in Ireland 2026 more than just a Gig”
The Metal Cell Podcast
06/09/25 • 85 min
Myself, Danielle, Evan, Letty & Joe of The Metal Cell Forums react to Metallica hitting Dublin for two nights in 2026 with Gojira, Avatar, Pantera & Knocked Loose being brought along for the craic! (Live Stream Podcast recorded in May 26th, 2025.
Metallica is coming back to Ireland in 2026, and we need to talk about it. In this episode, we’re diving headfirst into what this gig means to Irish fans—because let’s be honest, it’s more than just another show. It’s Metallica. In Ireland. Again. For a lot of us, it’s memories of first gigs, old t-shirts, and that feeling when the lights drop and “Ecstasy of Gold” hits.
We also take a look at the different packages Metallica are offering this time around—from standard tickets to the full VIP experience—and we’re giving our honest thoughts: worth it or nah? And of course, we couldn’t leave out the support bands. We chat about who’s warming up the stage, what they bring to the night, and whether they can get the crowd fired up before James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob take over.
Whether you’re already counting the days, still trying to convince your mates to go, or just want to relive some Metallica memories, this episode is for you. Get your horns up and let’s get into it!

Episode 337: Irish Musicians Unite for Benefit Gigs in Support of Adam Moore's MS Treatment.
The Metal Cell Podcast
04/22/25 • 53 min
Two special benefit gigs are set to take place in Dublin and Cork on April 24th and 25th in support of Adam Moore, (Merch Limbo/ex guitarist with Hero In Error), who has been living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for over a decade. All proceeds from the shows will go directly toward funding Adam’s ongoing stem cell treatment in Serbia.
In a deeply moving conversation, I was joined by Adam, long-time friend & Hero In Error drummer Steve "Confey" Reilly, along with Evan from Dead Cult Promotions /Worn Out, to talk about the shows and the journey that led them here. Adam spoke candidly about his diagnosis and the challenges he’s faced living with MS, while Confey reflected on Adam’s time in Hero In Error and the lasting impact he’s had on the Irish music community and beyond.
That sense of impact is clear in the response to a GoFundMe campaign launched by Adam’s fiancée, Tania, which has already surpassed the €75,000 mark — a milestone that surprised everyone except, perhaps, those who know just how many lives Adam has touched.
Adam’s determination in seeking alternative treatments and his decision to undergo stem cell therapy is a testament to his strength and resilience. These upcoming shows are more than just gigs — they’re a show of solidarity from a community that stands behind one of its own.

In this episode, I sit down with Jen Vaughan (Vocals), Darren O’Keeffe (Rhythm Guitar) and Scott McGowan (Lead Guitar) of the band with Mike Jordan (Bass) & Barry English (Drums) making up the rest of Shadows Calling, one of Ireland’s most exciting rising bands blending alt-rock, grunge, and metal into a sound entirely their own.
We dive into how the band came together—born during the 2020 lockdown as the brainchild of Mitchelstown native Darren O’Keeffe. He began writing original material for the first time and teamed up with his sister Jen Vaughan, a seasoned frontwoman with 20+ years in the music industry. Darren later discovered Cork guitarist Scott McGowan through an online musicians’ platform, igniting the dual-guitar foundation that drives the band’s hard-hitting sound.
Their debut EPs, Spirit Shifter and These Scars, showcase their raw energy, collaborative songwriting, and genre-blending edge. All lyrics are co-written by Darren and Scott, with music crafted collectively by the entire band.
We also talk about the creative process behind both EPs—produced and mixed by John Murphy (For Ruin) and mastered by Marco Tervonen of The Crown (Sweden)—plus stunning artwork by Colin Bolger (Spirit Shifter) and Giulia Benvenuti (These Scars).
From studio sessions and live tour reactions to Jen’s perspective as a female vocalist in metal and what 2025 has in store, this episode is packed with insight, passion, and authenticity.

I was delighted to finally open up the Metal Cell studios to welcome Chris Harte of Bailer. When Chris sent me on 'Disposable Youth' a few days previous, I was nervous enough approaching it. The four singles sounded immense but how would they interact with the rest of the songs and how would it play as a whole album from the start to finish. The results were jaw dropping! Bailer have made the debut album we all hoped they would. They have given the Hardcore/Metal scene the shot in the arm it needed, a voice to a generation who have suffered from mental health issues, abandonment and sheer frustration at living in a void created by a failure of successive governments. The album grabs the listener by the throat and forces you to face what Bailer wants you to see....a brutal reality filled with hostility, where you are battered with seismic riffs and pummelled into submission by a band that are on top of their game. Chris navigates us through the making of 'Disposable Youth' their debut album, we explore the topics of the album and you get to hear clips of all the songs. A special thanks goes out to Paul Flynn of Paul Flynn Productions who did a fantastic job of filming and editing the episode which is available on The Metal Cell YouTube channel. Shout outs also to JGVisuals and Paul Flynn for the additional content.

Episode 152: WORN OUT. Xander, Evan, Brian & Alex talk about their ferocious Hardcore/Metal debut E.P. 'WASTE'.
The Metal Cell Podcast
12/17/21 • 55 min
It was a pleasure to visit Hardcore/Metal act Worn Out up in their rehearsal space to celebrate the launch of their jaw-droppingly aggressive debut E.P 'WASTE'. Having witnessed the whole E.P played with brutal fury live in Belfast a few months back, it was a great to get the inside story on the the four tracks that make up this blistering debut. The first single release that cranked up the anticipation levels was 'Miles Away' mainly due to Conor Dockery's excellently twisted dark video. The lads fill us in on that and we talk about the production, recording and mixing of Aidan Cunningham. Getting James Sheridan was an inspired choice with the fantastic artwork that mirrors the abrasive onslaught of the E.P. After waiting for nearly two and a half years, WORN OUT have finally delivered a debut E.P that simply smashes the listener in the face and it's a glorious knockout blow. It's my favourite E.P of the year, so go out if you haven't already and buy the vinyl, the merch and celebrate another amazing band to look forward to in 2022. A special thanks goes out to Paul Flynn of Paul Flynn Productions who did a brilliant job of filming and editing this episode.

Episode 54: Spirit Merchant's Colin, Ollie and Leon discuss the creation and shaping of their new songs as a big year approaches for them as a new band.
The Metal Cell Podcast
01/09/20 • 74 min
The Metal Cell was delighted to start off 2020 with the first of a series of new acts to look out for in the Irish Metal Scene. Spirit Merchant's Colin Bolger (Vox/Guitars), Leon (Bass/Effects) and Ollie (Drums) all have a wealth of experience between them in their respective bands Zhora, Coroza and Medicant. It was great to sit down with the lads and explore the fundamental building blocks of Spirit Merchant. Having seen their debut last year, I was intrigued to hear how they've progressed as a three piece and they were quick to tell me that they had no shortage of new songs. It didn't surprise me to hear they were experimenting with various tones to bring a earthier soundscape to enrich the listeners experience and the conversation flowed around such topics as their band name, lyrics and festivals. The next few months will be important for Spirit Merchant with an upcoming appearance in Metal 2 The Masses and the release of a debut E.P. Colin, Ollie and Leon are seriously talented musicans and it was great to chat about the Metal Scene from their perspective. I have no doubt that they are ready to take a giant step into making 2020 a year to remember for those who witness them live and hope that whatever they release will live long in the memory of Irish Metal music.

Episode 51: Green Hell Part 1. A Metal Cell Compilation (featuring my favourite belter's of 2019)
The Metal Cell Podcast
12/19/19 • 89 min
The Metal Cell Compilation Green Hell Pt.1 (featuring my favourite belter's of 2019) is my way of ending 2019 with a solid dose of Irish heft. This year has been an incredible year for the Irish Metal Scene. The quality of the releases from all our bands has truly brought it to another level in musicianship and professionalism. The amount of bands vying for our attention is incredible, artists created some of their best work ever for album designs and t-shirt's, different genres within the scene sparked lots of interest and encouraged bands to embrace diversity. From the length and breadth of the country, bands have been showing up to play gigs, thankfully promoter's there in our main cities to facilitate this here, the U.K and Europe. I also want to acknowledge Limerick's, Zealot Cult who hit the USA to play a series of gigs as well. While I'm on about Limerick, Bad Reputation and DME Promotions combined to hire out King Johns Castle to host Amon Amarth and Behemoth, one of many highlights of the year for me, along with Rotting Christ hitting Cork for the terrific Monolith Festival, the success of the Siege of Limerick and the Invictus 20 year bash. One can only hope someone will document it in a book next year, I'd like to think the Podcast's certainly captured alot of the vibe of 2019 and I'm so happy to be able to promote the scene here and through Pure Rock Radio in Canada. In picking my compilation, I wanted to include as many bands as I could and to promote the diversity that exists in our scene. I wasn't always into Sludge, Post Metal, Doom, Black metal etc but I have kept a complete open mind going into gigs to watch these bands and have benefited enormously because of it. So having a time frame does tend to confine my selection and it makes it so difficult to leave out some bands therefore apologies if some releases didn't make the cut. Finally I'm so happy to be in the position to release this compilation to the many countries that I have listeners in, thank you all who have loved the show and for your continued support here in Ireland and further afield; shout outs to my listeners who downloaded the shows in Russia, Brazil, Australia, Israel, India, South Africa and many more who love Metal!!!

Episode 28: Rotting Christ at Monolith Festival 2019, Cyprus Avenue Cork.
The Metal Cell Podcast
08/08/19 • 17 min
It was an honour to sit down with the great Sakis of Rotting Christ and talk about Heretics, art, inspiration and the importance of connecting with metal fans through his music. Even though it was a short conversation, I was able to take away from it a man of unshakable faith in the music he creates for his fans, knowing that the joy that he generates for us metalheads playing Rotting Christ's music brings him absolute happiness.
