Episode 9: Kerry Preview
03/10/22 • 62 min
Kerry and Mayo have both reached Round 5 of this year's National League campaign unbeaten, with the Kingdom currently edging top spot in the Division One table on points difference. They're the form teams so far in the top division this spring and on Saturday evening at Austin Stack Park in Tralee they're set to come face-to-face. This will be the first time the counties have met in a competitive fixture since just before the Covid-19 pandemic struck two years ago.
In this episode of the Mayo News football podcast, we look ahead to Mayo's meeting with Kerry in Tralee on Saturday night. Rob Murphy hosts the show and he's joined by podcast regular Stephen Drake, as well as by Mick Foley of the Sunday Times and Tony Leen of the Irish Examiner to preview this highly anticipated Division One top of the table clash. The significance of the fixture for both teams is considered, the impact of Jack O'Connor's return to the hot seat in Kerry is assessed as are the challenges he's set to face in the position while Mayo's positive form so far this year is also analysed.

Episode 8: Any Other Craic?
With four rounds of National League matches already played, there's a break in the action this coming weekend ahead of Mayo's next assignment, a tough trip to Tralee to face Kerry. In this episode of the Mayo News Football Podcast, specially extended for our club members on Patreon, Mike sits down with Ed McGreal and Ger Flanagan for a general chat about a few Mayo GAA-related topics. We're calling this our 'Any Other Craic?' show.
Among the topics covered are Mayo's good start in this year's Division One campaign, despite having no designated, regular training ground right now; the likelihood of MacHale Park being ready to host the Mayo/Galway game at the end of April; how the county's U20s are shaping up ahead of Championship and the new structures for the Senior club Football Leagues.
In our members' clubhouse section at the end of the pod Mike and Ed chat about the players who are in and around the Mayo panel but who haven't featured in the National League as yet.

Episode 10: Kerry Review, Tyrone Preview
Mayo were narrowly edged out of it by Kerry last weekend but the next test facing James Horan's team is approaching rapidly, as they head to Omagh on Saturday to renew acquaintances with All-Ireland champions Tyrone. In this episode of the Mayo News Football Podcast, host Rob Murphy is joined by podcast regulars Ger Flanagan and Stephen Drake, as well as by Colm Keys of the Irish Independent, to look back at the Kerry match and to look ahead to the Tyrone game.
Reviewing the match in Tralee, the lads consider the strength of Mayo's midfield, the chances missed by the visitors and the way the contest swung back in Kerry's favour at the finish. The David Clifford/Oisín Mullin match-up also gets a mention, as does Cillian O'Connor's delayed return to the team and the best option for deploying Aidan O'Shea. Turning to the Tyrone game, the lads talk about the large number of defections from their panel this year and how poor discipline has cost them dearly so far in this campaign. The ongoing dispute about expenses between the GAA and the GPA also gets a mention.
