The Lauren Brady Podcast

The Lauren Brady Podcast

Lauren Brady

HEY THERE! I'm Lauren Brady and this is my podcast!!! I grew up in North Mississippi with two of the most wonderful parents and an amazing younger sister. My yellow lab, River, goes everywhere with me, and you best believe I'm going to hit the roads. Since graduating college from Mississippi State University, I have had the incredible opportunity to travel for work, and network with so many incredible people inside and outside of the outdoor industry.I love to talk, and love everything outdoors especially a mallard feet down over the trees or a hammering turkey on a limb. I'm extremely competitive, and like to run off of little sleep and sugar in my coffee. I'm no where close to perfect, but try to be better everyday than I was the day before. Hot diggity dog, this I really the only way to describe this podcast. These 3 make up part of the 'Lost Brake' boys that hunt a place they call 'the island' and that is literally what it is - an island on the Mississippi River between Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas. They are all 3 from surrounding areas near West Point, MS. We started off by Blake telling us how they met, and Brooks came in to explain the dynamic of their friendship. In their twenties, Brooks was competing in duck calling competitions, and Murray jumped in the truck with him to go hunt public land during season. Blake came along, and they later decided they wanted a place of their own to go to, to work at, to produce and harvest ducks. They tell me some stories, and we talk about Brooks' intensity. We break down the process of building a camp on an island and moving so much materials across not only a river, but the Mississippi River. They told me about the thought process of creating Lost Brake and not only the relationship with Mossy Oak, but also everyone agreed it would not even be a thing without Edward Wall. Blake tells me about making the most out of 'the dash' and we all explain how we try to live our lives. We talked about good country music, and wanna be performers at the island. And of course, we wrap up with some incredible advice.
This episode was an absolute blast, and there most definitely will be a part two. There are tons of belly-hurting, laughing stories along with experienced, life-long advice.
I can't thank these three enough for being on the show & all three being supporters of me and my life. Part 2 will be happening!

play

05/23/23 • 39 min

In this episode I got to sit down with Savannah Turner from Madison, MS and an upcoming senior at Mississippi State University. I've hired Savannah for the summer (hopefully she'll stay with me during her season year) and thrown a ton of things at her, but here we are! We started out by talking about where she's from and how we met. We talked about her job with me throughout this summer and all the things she has learned even in the first week. We also talked about playing soccer since she was a kid and playing at the collegiate level. She played at Holmes Community College for a year and a half then transferred to Mississippi State to just be a student. She told me about being a student at a SEC school and the difficulties people face throughout the semesters. We talked about being transferees, and some of the things we had to learn and adapt to during that time period. She told me about some of her connections she made through junior college, and we talked about the connections she is looking forward to making. She told me about her thoughts on the first week of work with LB, and what she is looking forward to this summer. And of course, we wrapped up with some advice.
I'm so thankful for the friendship I've developed with Savannah, and I'm so excited for all the incredible things she is going to do with her life.
I can't wait to see how much she grows just this summer & hope that I'm the best influence, teacher, role model, and everything else in between.

play

04/25/23 • 47 min

This #TuesdayTalkWithLB I got to jump on the phone with Mississippi State baseball player, Von Seibert. We started off with Von telling me about growing up in a small town around Mobile, AL and his life revolving around baseball. We talked about injuries as a high school senior and how mentally and physically challenging that is to overcome. Von told me about going to play baseball at Pearl River Community College in South MS. We discussed the incredible level of athletes that compete at the junior college level in the state of Mississippi. Von told me about being able to take his game to the next level during his time at Pearl River. We talked about the small town feeling of a college town, especially one like Starkville, MS and how that played a role into his commitment to Mississippi State. We touched on some of the details and insights of being a college athlete, and he told me about some of the crazy things that college athletes are required to do. Then, Von told me about his second favorite sport - duck hunting. We talked about how we originally met, and Von actually was behind me in line at a boat ramp. He told me about some of his favorite duck hunting memories that stick out, and we told some stories about the fulfillment that we feel when we are in the woods. We talked about traveling to duck hunt and experience different styles of duck hunting, and getting to share that with other people. And of course, we wrapped up with some advice & Von truly lives his life through his advice.

The Lauren Brady Podcast - EP 62 - 'Life is going to pass you by' with Cayley Foxworthy
play

03/28/23 • 59 min

#TuesdayTalkWithLB and this one I got to sit down with my college roommate and best friend, Cayley Foxworthy. She started us off by talking about growing up in Middle Tennessee with divorced parents that still get along. We talked about day dreaming and comparing our lives to those around us. Cayley told me about all the things she's learned becoming an adult, and how life always throws something at us. We explained how we are just taking it 'one day at a time'. We talked about how much we try to plan something for our lives - God has another plan. I told Cayley that 'it is what it is' and we have to learn how to deal with everything life throws at us. She told me about keeping relationships close and having important people in her life especially life throws punches. Cayley told me about attending Mississippi State University, and we told the story about how our friendship got started. We explained how we have continued to maintain such a good friendship through and after college. Cayley told me her opinion on our different personalities, and by having open communication and listening to one another our friendship has grown tremendously. We got into letting go and allowing life to flow as it does. And of course, we wrapped up with some great advice!
There is a reason, Cayley Foxworthy was my college roommate and still my best friend. I am so incredibly proud of the woman, person, daughter, employee, and friend she is. I'm so thankful for her being on the show and being in Mississippi - I'll cherish this forever.

In this episode, I jumped on the phone with two of my friends - Olivia 'Livy' Armstrong & Maddie Kovach. We met last summer at the Delta Waterfowl Duck Hunters Expo in Little Rock, AR and hit it off. I had the opportunity to go hunt with them this past season at their outfitter. We started off with them both telling me about growing up in the Michigan and Ohio & then moving to Middle Tennessee. We talked about their lives out there, and Livy told me about her relationship with quarter horses and working in a barn growing up. Maddie told me about graduating from Ohio State University with a Zoology degree, and going to work with different waterfowl outfitters for the past six years. We talked about their first ever deer hunt, and how whitetail deer hunting will always have their hearts. They both told me about the outfitter they are running & operating, Blackwater Outfitters, in the Boot-heel of Missouri as well as in Northeast Arkansas. Maddie & Livy told me about working together as a team and the importance of understanding people's attitudes and communication. We talked about the ups and downs of having waterfowl hunting as a job, and we talked about traveling vs. wintering and summering in two different places. We all three touched on overcoming difficult life challenges, and the coping mechanisms we have to implement in our daily lives. And of course, we wrapped up with some advice and the girls told me what they are looking forward to this upcoming year - Livy may or may not have a surprise!
.
These are two absolutely amazing women. I am so lucky to have both of them in my life as friends, role models, hunting buddies, and businesswomen.

This episode I got to jump on the phone with girl crush of mine and new friend Reagan Poole Bradley. Reagan grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma as an only child with two wonderful parents where she attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. We started off talking about friendships and the effort required in any type of relationship especially life after college and living states away from your "best friends". We talked about going to the rival university of our parents alma maters and how much life changes once you graduate. We talked about brand partnerships and working with companies and people. Reagan and I both talked about how much people adapt and change with and in life, and therefore that also reflects a company and that person as well. We then got to talking about deer hunting and Reagan told me about killing a buck on her own opening day of duck season this past year. Then we dove into turkey season and how Reagan has typically been sitting in a baseball stadium during the spring and summertime. We talked about dating and marrying a professional athlete, and Reagan gave some details about packing, moving, traveling, and everything else that comes with life in the MLB. And of course we wrapped up with some advice, and this might be some of my favorite advice yet!
I can't thank Reagan enough for spending her night chatting it up with me! She is the absolute coolest and stay tuned for a possible turkey hunt!

Hot diggity dog, this episode I got to sit down at the shop with two of my good friends Trey Baker and Tripp Wallace. Trey owns and operates Southern Speck Outfitters in Tichnor, AR and Tripp guides for SSO! They both are two of the funniest and happy-go-lucky men I've had the pleasure to meet.
We kind of bounced all over the place, but we started off talking about the tiredness and stress that comes with only a week left in duck season. Trey told us about growing up with his dad teaching him everything about ducks and throwing him to the wolves. We talked about Tripp helping Trey and the level of communication that goes into scouting to run a successful outfitter. We talked about goose guiding vs duck guiding. They both told me stories about scouting, patterning geese, and truly understanding huntable birds. We talked about hunting leases and the importance of communication between hunters, guides, farmers, land owners, all of the above. We talked a lot about having new hunters every 3 days, and being your absolute best for them. But we also touched on the attitudes and mindset of hunters understanding they are working their hardest to be able to hunt these birds in the same area.
We talked about Canada and the incredible hunting that is up there, and of course we wrapped up quick with some advice!
We could've talked for another 3 hours, but boy was this an absolute blast! I can't thank Trey & Tripp enough for all their support in everything I'm doing and pushing me to be better every day!

FINALLY back for a #TuesdayTalkwithLB and we get down to it - I've been so busy, and am finally back on the podcast game. As the best 60 days in the country are in full swing here in Arkansas, this is the start to a series of episodes with many of the GREATS discussing the changes of duck hunting in Arkansas.
I got to jump on a call with the one and only Kirk McCullough to talk about the past, present and future of Arkansas duck hunting. We tried to figure out how to decipher through all the elements that play a role in the changes, but we just dove right into it. We began talking about private land owners out-managing and out-farming the state and federal land. Then we started to discuss the number of hunters before the 2000s vs. the number of hunters today. Kirk told stories about Bayou Meto, and watching the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission come in to cut buck brush and put levees in. Kirk told me about Center Hole and what it looks like today. We talked about the 'Spinner Era' and the effects a motion decoy had on duck hunting in general. We talked about different myths that people use as excuses for the decline of ducks in Arkansas such as: the flyways shifting west, Canada's duck limits, and social media.
And of course we discussed the most important puzzle piece of duck hunting - Mother Nature. We talked about hunting in dry years and water levels in Arkansas.
Kirk told me about this collection of images and videos from over the years.
We wrapped up with 'What Can We Do From Here? How Can We Move Forward?'
Kirk told me that 'Yesterday's gone and all we have is today'. We talked about technology advancing faster than the animal we are hunting, and how sometimes we have to take a step back to humble ourselves. We have to remind ourselves of what we have right now at our finger tips.
.
I had a blast getting to talk with Kirk about one of my deepest loves. I hope that this podcast reaches the duck hunter out there that wants to preserve and better Arkansas duck hunting. I hope that the duck hunter that does hear this is inspired to do better - to be better.
