How would you respond if your little town all of a sudden had an influx of 7,000 people from 90 countries sitting on 38 jumbo aircraft at your tiny airport?
That happened in a matter of hours on 9/11/ 2001 in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada.
As the terrorist acts of that terrible day unfolded in the United States, Kevin Tuerff sat on an Air France Flight in a state of shock. Suddenly they had started to descend and the plane banked north. Then an announcement came over the speaker in French. He could only understand one word. Terrorism. Then the announcement came out in English saying that due to acts of terrorism in the United States their plane would be diverted to the town of Gander, Newfoundland.

He is the author of an amazing book - "Channel of Peace: Stranded in Gander 9/11" which story has been portrayed in the award winning Broadway Musical, "Come From Away."
