The Kick Sugar Coach Podcast - Dallin Hardy: The Role that Micronutrients Play in Sugar Addiction Recovery

Dallin Hardy: The Role that Micronutrients Play in Sugar Addiction Recovery

11/23/22 • 62 min

The Kick Sugar Coach Podcast

In today's podcast interview, Dallin Hardy, a scientist with Hardy Nutritionals, will expand upon the role that micronutrients play in both reducing stress and reducing sugar cravings. We will also discuss how a simple supplement can dramatically improve health and mental health issues such as depression, and anxiety.
What are micronutrients?
Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals we need to consume (adequately and consistently) to avoid deficiencies. Even minor deficiencies can have catastrophic impacts on our brain AND cellular health, endocrine, hormonal, and immune systems.
Most of us have deficiencies. It is inevitable given modern agricultural practices, modern stress levels, and excess sugar consumption.
Did you know that since the 1950s, agricultural technology has enabled farmers to plant up to 6 times as many plants per acre? This has led to fruits, vegetables, and even farm animals containing significantly less calcium, phosphorus, iron, B vitamins, vitamin C, zinc, and more.
If it's not is not in the soil, it can't show up in the plant. If it is not in the plant, or animal, it cannot show up in our bloodstream. This is a HUGE problem.
If you think you don't need micronutrient supplementation, think again!
If you have mental health or addiction issues of any kind, micro-nutrient supplementation will be a game-changer for you.
Dallin Hardy will detail the science behind the power of micronutrient supplementation to heal our brains and boost our moods. He will share the results of 30+ placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials. Many individuals supplementing with micronutrients, in partnership with their doctors, are able to de-prescribe psychiatric medications, they are that effective. Amazing!
Once you have enough of the essential nutrients your brain and body need, you will naturally find yourself happier, more energetic, more optimistic, and more resilient to stress. You will also find yourself less interested in junk food including sugar.
Supplementation cannot replace eating whole foods, sufficient sleep, exercise, etc. But for those of us in the early days of recovery, trying to get a grip on cravings, and trying to feel better, it can make our journey of recovery come quicker and easier.
PS - Here is a link to their website. I recommend you start with Daily Essential Nutrients. If you use my referral code (kicksugar), it will get you 15% off. Type in my referral code at the checkout.

PPS - Not all supplements are the same. The quality of the ingredients, the concentration of the ingredients, the ratio of the ingredients, the combination of the ingredients, and the bioavailability of the ingredients can vary dramatically. This company, which started out as a non-profit and was only intended to heal mental illness in the immediate family, now has the world’s most science-backed product on the planet. I do not hesitate to recommend it every chance I get.

Dr. Vera Tarman: The Connection Between Food Addiction and Trauma

Dr. Vera Tarman, M.D., author of the book Food Junkies and co-host of the podcast Food Junkies, is a medical doctor working in addiction treatment. In addition to her professional expertise, she has her own food addiction recovery story and it includes having lost and kept off 100 pounds over 13 years.
In this interview, we explore the topic of how trauma intersects with food addiction.
Some camps say trauma causes addiction which implies or suggests that if we heal the trauma, our addiction can heal too or at least fade into the background. It is or was caused by the trauma. It is a trauma response.
Others say, trauma and addiction are separate and distinct and may or may not co-occur. There is a correlation, not a causation relationship.
Others say the root cause of addiction is not a biochemical brain glitch, nor a misguided attempt at self-regulation, but a spiritual crisis.
Listen in as Dr. Tarman weighs in on the topic of how these different threads, these different perspectives on the root cause of addiction, come together into a cohesive narrative. She does not present answers, she depolarizes the perspectives and explores their intersection and interdependence.

Siobhan Harris: From Sugar Fiend to Sugar Freedom

On January 13, 2018, Siobhan Harris decided to give up sugar for one whole year.

She did it DIY style. Her intention was to do a one-year no sugar sabbatical and write a book about her journey. She wrote in her journal daily tracking the ups and downs, the challenges and victories.
Nearly 5 years later, Siobhan is still sugar-free and going strong. Her life and health have been totally transformed so much so that she went on to become a Certified Health Coach, a Body Code Practitioner, and a popular podcast host (Unsweetened Sio).
In this interview, we talk about her recent struggles with volume eating and snacking (as Siobhan navigates an emotionally challenging time), and what she did to get back on track and reclaim her food freedom and peace of mind.
In this honest, upfront, and insightful interview, we are reminded that life on the other side of sugar is not always perfect and that when we experience blips with our food choices, there are reliable tools that can help us get back on track.
I hope you find strength in Siobhan‘s honesty, vulnerability and kick-butt determination to never return to the arms of sugar and to keep moving forward.
PS — Siobhan’s story all started with a one-year commitment to consume absolutely no sugar, and no flour for one year. If that sounds intriguing to you, you’re in the right place, at the right time. On January 10, 2023, we launch our 1-year Kick Sugar Group Coaching program. It will walk you through an entire year of eating sugar-free. Perhaps you would like to join us? We have limited enrollment.
