Anne Riley, armed with an MBA, scientific wit, experience in multiple industries, and the mind of a curious philosopher - has been on a lifelong quest to understand how humans logically fit into life's panorama. Spending much of her time studying the works of Charles Darwin, Stephen Jay Gould, and Michael Rothschild (among many others), and immersing herself in the basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, economics, and government - all gave her the foundation for a new way of thinking about humans - and has arrived with her new book to encapsulate these concepts - "The Human Idea - Earths Newest Ecosystem"
Anne's book flips humanity's attention upon itself and builds to uncover the essence of what it means to be human. This podcast episode explores the profound inquiries of why we are here and how our capacity for thought distinguishes us from other species. Riley invites us on a journey through the tapestry of life, blending scientific acumen with philosophical depth to illuminate how the survival tactics refined over eons can inform our modern challenges. Discover in Anne's book "The Human Idea":
The Ecosystem of Life: Insights into the vast web of life that connects us all, tracing our evolutionary path to understand our place within it.
The Power of Ideas: Exploring the uniquely human trait of ideation, fostering both our greatest triumphs and our most pressing dilemmas.
The Ideasphere: Riley's innovative concept of the ideasphere, a lens through which we can view human society and leverage this understanding for sustainable progress.

Anne Riley's narrative is more than a contemplation on our origins; it's a clarion call for our future. Facing existential crises like climate change and social divides, "The Human Idea" provides a blueprint for harnessing nature's lessons to forge a path toward a more harmonious existence. Join us for this enlightening conversation, about the human ecosystem. Episode 108 with Anne Riley - Always Evolution Occurs.

Meredith and Craig Bennett are relationship coaches. Awhile back, at the exact same time, they both left their corporate jobs to pursue being entrepreneurs - they jumped right into real estate, and bombed quickly. And it turned out to be exactly what they needed to head them down a road right back to themselves. They stop by The Junkyard Love Podcast to chat about their pillars for building a dream marriage, how to approach difficult conversations, tactical use of expression, examples of questions all marriages can ask, loss of intimacy, feeling disconnected, feeling like roommates, being intentional in our marriage, the art of working as a team, not getting lost in hyperbole, having a 200% marriage mindset, and more.

Here's a blip from their page:

"Through it all, we’ve developed a growth mindset, and grew exponentially as individuals, we built businesses, most of which sucked, got in the best shape of our lives in our forties, and did all of it while strengthening our marriage and making it bulletproof.
Our marriage is the foundation for everything else we build in our lives. It is a cheat code for life, and we believe that having that dialed in helps every other facet of life and that has become our passion.
Now we focus on helping other entrepreneurs live their dream life and that starts with having that rock-solid relationship where you don’t need to spend valuable time and energy repairing a relationship.
When you have that dialed in it only requires maintenance which leaves so much time and energy to focus on building the life and business of your dreams."

(5) Spencer and I video chat about some at-home practices and techniques to better suit each of us amidst the current covid retreat. We include some recommendations for walking, stretching, at-home workouts, mindfulness, awareness and general at-home health. Spencer and I discuss concepts that hopefully aide and assist any listeners during this stay-at-home order. Rebecca Wyld is a Life Coach, Cosmetologist, outdoors advocate, motivator, health seeker, self-love practitioner, client-counselor and - story changer. This episode is a holy grail for anyone in search of a little life advice around habit change. Life Coaching - What is it? How did you get started and what do you do with it now? Who is it for? - Rebecca fills in all the blanks for me, and she shares how a small pain in the neck led to trails, inner healing, habit change, and her position towards life now. The philosophy at her company is pretty straight forward - Getting people back to the simple way of living. Here's a quote from Rebecca: "There are so many avenues to health (mental and physical) that people get paralysis by analysis and ultimately end up doing NOTHING. (No bueno!) - So my practice is about guiding people (women) to take empowered action by slowing down and building a solid foundation of a more primitive way of living. - Literally re-learning health. Eat the whole foods. drink the fucking water. intentionally embracing the silence for a few moments. Put down your phone. Put your feet in the grass. Heal yourself. Do the work. Walk before you run. Depression is real. Action is necessary." We share hiking stories and talk about bears, cougars, coyotes, and elephants - we discuss personal path obstacles, the importance of cosmetologists chats in the chair, when to be flexible and when to be rigid, people-pleasing and boundaries. I found we really dove into the weeds of self-actualization and habit change, with recommendations and mindset swaps up for offer. Holistic health, weight loss, self-love, breaking habit loops - Rebecca really offers introspective sparking perspective on all of these valuable and important human attainments. She believes in taking one step at a time, pushing through instant gratification with ACTION and repetition, not identifying with a story of pain and lack, and avoiding confirmation bias of our ill-served belief systems. There's concurrence between us that Inflammation is a total demon, writing is magic, discomfort is growth, and habits can be changed with awareness and persistence. We talk breaking family cycles, reframing interactions and boundaries with one another, energy vampires, creating ritualistic thresholds, mirror work, creating a 'ta'dah!' list, social anxiety, and the mindset of making better decisions. Rebecca Wyld loves to learn why people do what they do. She's observant, present, intelligent, and professional. Our interaction was enthralling and filled with valuable information. Greatly appreciative of people like Rebecca for what they do. "Why am I being a jerk to myself, is there another way?" "What if what you actually want is just a lil' bushwhack away?" "If it's your truth, own it!" "It took a long time for me to be able to look into the mirror and point out the things I loved instead of the things I hate." "Take me to a place where I feel small"

The Junkyard Love Podcast - Episode 010 with Brian 'Dj Toasty' Andrews and Kelly 'K3lls' St. Onge

I have worked in the music and sound industry for nearly a decade now. My DJ endeavors are plentiful and have offered me many lessons that I will carry forward as I level up more in this life. The mind of a DJ takes discipline. Constantly assessing and planning your next 5 moves is not a skill that shuts off for the Disc Jockey when the lights come on at 2am. We briefly touched the iceberg on these two great humans. There's much more they each will offer in the coming months from their intricate and beautiful minds. In this episode, we get a small glance into the different backgrounds each of us bring to the tables and where those backgrounds point us now as older wiser men. We share stories of festivals, clubs and silly business. We try to bridge the gap between the requester and the dj - as well as contemplate the future of the disc jockey and his place in clubs. There are many differences between DJ's and their skills, and many more with more complicated aliases with names like "producer" or "writer", we try to lay that out - as well as the differences between terms like "bootleg", "remix", and "edit". The boys and I do our best to scrape up some new lenses and frames for the listeners to take a peek through. P.S. relax your scowl, go drink some water and grab some fresh air real quick.

A couple of notable quotes from the episode:

"We become increasingly aware of wherever our pain points are, or our reactivity is, we become aware of those, and able to NOT react, and not enter into the lower frequencies of anger, fear, frustration, doubt, limitation - wherever we have humanly felt blocked before - that increasingly dissolves and melts away. We are bringing healing, compassion, wisdom, and awareness in." - Swami Nityananda

"Of course, if you are a human facing loss, there's an adjustment and it's really honest spiritually to say 'This is a big adjustment that I'm going through, and humanly I'm experiencing grief right now.' And it becomes much easier to move through it gracefully, to not push down the feelings, not deny them, but also to connect with that wholeness, if we're able to connect with that connectedness which goes so far beyond the physical." - Swami Nityananda

"Stay here. Every moment that you have to stay here in the body, stay here. Be fully here, and, when the time comes, do not fear. Absolutely do not fear." - Swami Nityananda
