In today's episode, we are joined by two impressive guests - Owais Arshad and Oleh Savytskyi.
Owais Arshad is a geostrategist who advises on geopolitical developments, sanctions regimes, export controls, and international finance. His clients have spanned both public and private sector entities such as central banks, financial regulators, commodity traders, hedge funds, and private equity firms. He has spoken at leading industry fora on emerging risks such as DeFi protocols and writes on international security matters. His writings have appeared in journals such as Nikkei Asia and Al Jazeera and he is often requested to comment on topical issues such as sovereign risk, and international relations.
Oleh Savytskyi is a world-class climate and energy policy expert. Oleh has 10 years of experience in the field – from youth climate activism to consulting the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine. Oleh participated in the UNFCCC conferences COP21 in Paris in 2015 and in Glasgow in 2021. Oleh is a fellow of the Michael Succow Nature Conservation Fund and alumni of Agora Energiewende EnerTracks training program for energy transition professionals. Since 2022 Oleh has mobilized to fight the Russian fossil fuel industry as Campaigns Manager at NGO Razom We Stand.

Rupert Younger is the founder and director of Oxford University’s Centre for Corporate Reputation and co-author of two books - The Reputation Game and The Activist Manifesto. He has published widely on matters related to legitimacy, status, stigma, celebrity, reputation, and trust. He chaired The University of Oxford’s Socially Responsible Investment Committee (2012-2017) and is a member of the Senior Common Rooms at Wooster College Oxford and St Antony’s College Oxford. His views are regularly featured in major news outlets including the BBC, CNN, the Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Outside of Oxford, he is an Ambassador for the international mine clearance charity The HALO Trust and was appointed by HM Queen Elizabeth II as her High Sheriff of Hampshire for 2013-14. Rupert also co-founded the strategic communications consulting firm FGS Global.

Nicaragua's elections held on November 7 rung alarm bells for political analysts that focus on Central America, as Ortega's hyperbolic electoral win pointed to his continued encroachment on democratic freedoms and institutions in the country. To dissect the implications of these elections we are joined by Tiziano Breda, Central America Analyst for the International Crisis Group. He conducts extensive field research, provides analysis, and proposes policy initiatives to relevant governmental, international and non-governmental actors to address key issues linked to violent crime, migration and political instability in the Central American region. Tiziano joined Crisis Group in April 2017, first as an intern and then as EU Advocacy & Research Assistant in the Bogotá office. He previously wrote for different online magazines, mainly regarding European and Latin American affairs.

Anja Shortland is a Professor of Political Economy at King’s College, London. Her teaching is on the economics of crime and she researches the world’s trickiest trades: the resolution of hostage crises and piracy incidents, stolen and looted art, and ransomware. She is particularly interested in the role of insurers in helping crime victims to conduct business transactions across the ragged edge between the legal economy and the economic underworld.
