The Insidious Agenda Podcast
The Folklore Appendices: Dark Legends of Ireland

First off, a happy St. Patrick's Day to those celebrating. I don't believe i've had anyone listen in to the Podcast from Ireland yet - so this might be the first. If you have any Irish friends - flip them a link to the episode. I'd be interested to hear what they think and if I did the stories justice.
Like most holidays, I always want to put out a second episode to say thanks to you all for listening and also because it offers the opportunity to hear from different cultures around the world. We're fascinated by the drinking aspect that comes from Irish culture on St. Patrick's Day, but we never hear of their terrifying stories rooted in Celtic belief.
So, that's where I come in with three different stories. The first is the story of the Banshee, likely the one that most are familiar with due to it's screaming and the many sayings that come with its name. I wanted to cover this one for a friend who told me once that she was given that nickname. The second, is one of the more interesting deities in legend - the Morrigan. A shapeshifting Goddess of battle whose cry forebode death. The third, is another of Bram Stoker's inspirations for Count Dracula, the story of the evil, undead dwarf King known as Abartach.
So there you have it! Another episode is coming your way on Tuesday per normal, but hopefully this will get your St. Patrick's Day started right and I wish you a wonderful, joyous celebration (if you're taking part).
Sláinte and Erin Go Bragh!
Nick
