The HourTime Show - King Seiko Is Back, And We Have Thoughts

King Seiko Is Back, And We Have Thoughts

01/31/22 • 31 min

The HourTime Show

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are Victor (@vmarks on Twitter), Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon), and Patrick (@PatrickWatches).

For new listeners, Patrick is the managing editor of WristWatchReview but his schedule typically doesn't allow him to record with us very easily. But we're happy to have him on the pod this week, especially as John was busy with work stuff.

Anyway!

We've got a big and juicy news-filled podcast this week. After some initial banter about watch size preferences, we dive into the just-announced King Seiko re-launch and an interesting interview the CEO of Tag Heuer gave to Hodinkee.

With King Seiko, we discuss our initial reaction to the new watches (mixed, though Nicholas is largely a fan) and what we would have done differently. One major complaint people seem to have is the use of the 6R movement, in a $1700 watch. This movement has somewhat of a mixed reputation online (it doesn't appear to keep time very well, for one), and to see it in a watch at this price point is... well, people aren't happy.

With Tag, we mainly discuss where the brand "fits" in the watch world today, and how we might market a watch brand specifically to a younger demo.

That's about the gist of this week.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

Keep it locked to WristWatchReview.com and @wristwatchreview on Instagram for more fun watch content.

As always, you can reach us by email at [email protected], DM us on Instagram, or reach out to us on Twitter.

Thank you for listening, and have a great week!

Interview: We Speak With Alex Gravelle of Velle Alexander Leather Watch Straps!

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter), Victor (@vmarks) and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon).

Joining us this week is Alex Gravelle, who makes fine, bespoke leather watch straps under the brand name Velle Alexander.

Alex contacted us recently asking to see if we'd want to talk all things leather straps on the show, and we readily agreed. After what feels like a couple of weeks in a row complaining about the state of the watch industry, this is definitely a much welcome change of pace. Watches are supposed to be fun!

In this interview, Alex walks us through how and why he created Velle Alexander, explains what it's like actually creating a leather watch strap, and generally educates us on all things leather.

It's a great little interview and we hope you enjoy it!

You can find Alex on Instagram (@vellealexander) or directly on the Velle Alexander website.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

Feel free to drop us a line if there's anyone else out there in the wide watch world you'd like for us to try to speak to. You can email us at [email protected], DM us on Instagram, or reach out to us on Twitter.

Thank you for listening, and have a great week!

All About Radium Lume

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter) and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon), which if I'm not mistaken is the first John-Nicholas episode in this production run. Excelsior!

There was slightly less news this week than last, where the return of King Seiko was on everyone's minds. And while John and Nicholas do touch on King Seiko a bit at the tail end of the episode, this week we mostly focus on a post John published about the use of radium in watches prior to the 1970s-ish. Pretty fascinating! John also explains why he wrote the post, which I think is also interesting, given my ostensible career in media. (If it's not clear, Nicholas writes these show notes.)

Nicholas then very briefly touches on a Longines event that he attended this week (where he met Teddy Baldassarre!), which explains his poor audio quality this week. Look for a post on the site in a few days.

And that about does it.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.
