The Hockey Betting Podcast

February 10th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast

The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

The compressed schedule means plenty of action over the next two days with playoff races raging. Teams that are regularly winning games still find themselves on the outside looking in for post-season positions at the start of the week.

Listen to the latest edition of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get all of Brian and Cam’s picks.

Monday, February 10th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

Arizona Coyotes at Montreal Canadiens -136, 5.5 (TSN2 & RDS)

The Habs are 7-3 in their last 10 games after a thrilling 2-1 Saturday night overtime home win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Montreal has closed to within six points of the final Eastern Conference slot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Arizona’s lack of offence is catching up with them now. The Yotes have won only two of their last 10 games. Cam likes the Coyotes due to a potential Habs letdown. Brain reminds us about how streaky Arizona is.

Florida Panthers at Philadelphia Flyers -135, 6.5

On last Friday’s episode (02/07/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast, the guys cracked hard on the Panthers lack of defence and perpetual failings each year. Florida has now dropped three in a row. In that same episode Brian and Cam also correctly picked Philadelphia in their 7-2 win at Washington Saturday night. Coach Alain Vigneault’s Flyers have won seven out of their last 10 tilts to hold the final NHL playoff spot in the East. Brian doesn’t trust either team, but Cam likes the underdog Cats.

New York Islanders at Washington Capitals -175, 6

Also on Friday’s episode (02/07/2020), Brian claimed the Islanders could win a couple of series in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, offence remains a worry on the Island. The sluggish Capitals have flopped in three of their last five to fall behind first place Boston in the East. Brian likes the Islanders to play well down the stretch but will pass after the Caps poor performance on Saturday. Cam is thinking Caps in a rebound and over the total.

Tampa Bay Lightning -167, 5.5 at Columbus Blue Jackets (NBCSN)

Coach Jon Cooper’s Bolts have exploded to win eight of their last 10 and are now just five points behind Boston. However, Columbus has also won eight of their last 10 as Elvis (Merzlikins) remains in the building and between the pipes for the Jackets. He boasts a .930 save percentage and five shutouts. This is a re-match from last year’s epic CBJ upset sweep of the top-seeded Lightning. Seth Jones is out for CBJ, and the guys agree that is a huge loss. Brian thinks the total may be too low based on over-reaction to the Jones injury. The guys agree that the prolific Lightning offence can send the game over the total. Brian doesn’t like the high price on TBL, which means puck lines might be the better route here.

Nashville Predators -120, 6 at Vancouver Canucks

Nashville’s leaky back end has put them two points out of the final NHL playoff spot in the West. The Canucks are running out of steam with four straight losses.

Listen to the Hockey Betting Podcast to hear what Brian and Cam think about this high-pressure match-up in the West. Cam has a strong play for this one.

Calgary Flames -110, 6 at San Jose Sharks

The Flames are in seventh position in the West despite being -16 in goal differential along with an NHL rank of 27th for goals scored. Calgary has lost five of their last seven but face a bad Sharks team ranked next to last in the West for goal differential along with 28th for goals scored, 26th for the power play, and 25th for goals allowed. Cam likes the Flames here.

Tuesday, February 11th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

Detroit Red Wings at Buffalo Sabres -215

On last Wednesday’s episode (02/05/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast, the guys correctly picked Detroit to get the money as huge road dogs at Buffalo. Will lightning strike again just one week later? Detroit has perked up with two big underdog payout wins in their last three games. The puck line could be the way to go for Sabres backers in this one. The guys will pass and say the game sucks. They also justifiably question Buffalo’s pride.

Arizona Coyotes at Toronto Maple Leafs -210 (TSN4)

Can the Coyotes generate any offence at all against a Toronto Maple Leafs team ranked 27th for goals allowed and 25th for the penalty kill? Cam likes Arizona if they lose at Montreal on tonight. Brian says Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen should return for this one but could be rusty. Cam hates the high price on TO and likes the over.

Florida Panthers -141 at New Jersey Devils

The Panthers have dropped to three points out of the final Eastern Conference position for th...

02/07/2020 Friday NHL Betting Odds Preview, Picks

February 7th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast

The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for Friday, February 7, Saturday, February 8, and Sunday, February 9, 2020.

The jockeying for NHL Playoff positions continues with a compressed schedule that crams a large amount of games into a short amount of time. That is certainly the case for this weekend which looks like one of the best cards so far this season.

Listen to the latest edition of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get all of Brian and Cam’s picks.

Friday, February 7th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds and Free Picks

Anaheim Ducks at Toronto Maple Leafs -230, 6.5 (SNO)

On Wednesday’s (02/05/2020) episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Cam pointed out that the Toronto Maple Leafs are too soft and that will cause their demise come the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Leafs are two points out of the last wild card spot in the East and have lost two in a row. Puck lines may get action for Toronto due to the high price here. Toronto’s analytics geeks continue to fail at cracking the code for their abysmal NHL rankings of 25th for both goals allowed and penalty killing. Goaltender Frederik Andersen remains doubtful with a neck injury. Further worrisome is that the heavily-favoured Leafs have won only 13 out of 27 home games. Anaheim has paid in only 10 out of 29 away games, ranks 29th for goal scoring and is dead last for the power play. The guys are thinking over the total here. Cam likes Toronto but not the price.

Buffalo Sabres at New York Rangers -175. 6.5

On the last three episodes of The Hockey Betting Podcast the Sabres have been the top whipping boys of both Brian and Cam - with plenty of good reason. Buffalo’s latest debacle was a Thursday night 4-3 shootout home loss as -225 chalks to the lowly Detroit Red Wings. The guys called for a big money Detroit upset in that tilt. It was Buffalo’s fifth loss in six games. The Sabres five-game homestand has mercifully come to a close and perhaps the road will offer them refuge. The Rangers have won three of their last four games. Brian likes over the total and Cam agrees. Cam also likes the Rangers and says the price isn’t that bad considering how awful the Sabres are.

Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets -315. 5.5

Detroit is coming off that rare road win at Buffalo, but now face a tight and disciplined CBJ team that holds the seventh playoff spot in the East. The Blue Jackets have gone under the total in 20 of 28 home games and rank third best in the NHL for goals allowed. Coach John Tortorella’s Jackets are red-hot with eight wins in their last nine games. And eight of their last 10 have gone under the total. The price is way too high for the guys here, and they pass.

Minnesota Wild at Dallas Stars -170, 5 (NHL Network)

The Wild have quietly beaten the NHL odds in five of their last seven games to remain within four points of the final playoff spot in the West. This is a match-up of opposites. Dallas ranks 26th in the NHL for goal scoring but second for goals allowed. By contrast the Wild are 15th for goals scored but 29th for goals allowed and 30th for penalty killing. Cam likes Dallas in what he calls a “chalky” Friday night and likes over the total.

Saturday, February 8th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds and Free Picks

Ottawa Senators at Winnipeg Jets -175 (NHL Network, CBC, SN)

The Jets are in rapid descent with only three payouts in their last 10 games and a disturbing home record of 12-12-3. But the Sens have won only five out of 26 away games. Puck lines may be the preferred method for Jets backers based on the high price for this one. Cam will take a look at Ottawa due to price and has a theory that dogs often do well on Hockey Day in Canada.

Arizona Coyotes at Boston Bruins -200

Boston has over-taken the Capitals for top spot in the Eastern Conference and is riding a five-game winning streak. On Wednesday’s (02/05/2020) episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian expected the Coyotes to build upon the momentum of their February 4th win over Edmonton. But Arizona dropped the eighth match-up in their last 10 outings in a 5-3 home loss to Carolina. The slumping Coyotes can’t find enough reliable goal scoring and hold a slim two-point lead for the 2020 NHL Playoffs in the West. The guys pass on this one.

Nashville Predators at Edmonton Oilers -114 (SN360, CITY)

Nashville has won two in a row to climb within one point of the final post-season slot in the West. Edmonton boasts the NHL’s best power play and that could be a match-up advantage here against Nashville’s leaky defence and penalty killing unit. Cam likes the price on The Oil here as well as the over.

Toronto Maple Leafs -125 at Montreal Canadiens (NHL Network, CBC)

Nothing speaks NHL Tradition like a Hockey Night in Canada match...

02/12/2020 Wednesday NHL Betting Odds Preview, Picks

February 12th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast

The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13, 2020. The second half of the show begins at the 26:46 mark.

Wednesday features only three games on the card but does offer doubleheader action on NBCSN and SN. Thursday will be locked and loaded with 11 games on the board.

Listen to the latest edition of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get all of Brian and Cam’s picks.

Wednesday, February 12th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins -200, 5.5 (SN, NBCSN)

Two Original Six arch-rivals and both in good form will meet on national TV with precious points towards the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs at stake. What more could puckheads possibly want?

Montreal is now seven points out of the last post-season slot in the East after seven wins in their last 10 games. Boston has taken over top spot in the East with six wins in their last seven tilts. The Bruins rank first for goals allowed and second for penalty killing. Cam says throw the records out when these two rivals meet and urges caution on the big Boston price. He passes.

Calgary Flames -140, 5.5 at Los Angeles Kings (SN1, NBCSN)

Calgary remains in precarious position for post-season by just a single point in the West. Lowly LA has but one win in their last 10 outings. Neither club has much in the way of offence. Brian says the Kings are a “fire sale waiting to happen.” But Cam says “Calgary is not to be trusted” and adds that this is a “difficult game.” Brian leans Calgary based on the angle of LA coming back from a four-game road trip.

Chicago Blackhawks at Vancouver Canucks -150, 6.5 (SN)

Cam correctly called for the Canucks to end their four-game losing streak on Monday’s episode (02/10/2020) as Vancouver crushed Nashville 6-2. After flirting with playoff contention Chicago has dropped four of their last five. Brian says a case can be made for over the total and Cam agrees. The guys have caution flags out for this one as well on the side.

Thursday, February 13th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

Columbus Blue Jackets at Buffalo Sabres -110

CBJ ranks second in the NHL for goals allowed and has gone over the total in only 19 out of 57 games on the season. Furthermore, the Blue Jackets have stayed under the number in eight of their last 10 outings. Brian and Bruce have howled at the moon over the lackluster Sabres in our last several episodes of The Hockey Betting Podcast, questioning their character as much as their ability. Buffalo has dropped six of their last eight. Cam leans CBJ, but Brian says that Columbus struggles in games at Buffalo.

Dallas Stars at Toronto Maple Leafs -148

This is a classic match-up of opposites with the defence-oriented Stars and the offence-oriented Leafs. Dallas can’t score consistently while Toronto is not to be trusted with a lead. Cam likes Dallas at plus-money and continues to scoff at Toronto’s good luck.

Edmonton Oilers at Tampa Bay Lightning -215

Even with Connor McDavid out for Edmonton this one features plenty of skill and offence, but the Lighting have the superior back end and goaltending. Coach Jon Cooper’s Bolts have won eight of their last nine match-ups. The puck lines may appeal to TBL backers here. Cam likes under the total and Brian agrees.

Philadelphia Flyers at Florida Panthers -127 (NBCSN)

Florida has fallen three points out of the final post-season spot in the East with five losses in their final six games. The Panthers ranking of 28th for goals allowed has caught up with them. Coach Alain Vigneault has the Flyers in top form with six wins in their last eight games to gain the number seven playoff slot in the East. Cam says you can make a case for either side as well as for over or under the total. But he likes the Florida revenge angle after the Panthers loss at Philadelphia last week. Brian is thinking over the total and Cam agrees.

Detroit Red Wings at New Jersey Devils -215

Cam admitted on Monday’s episode (02/10/2020) that he has a thing for the Devils despite their last place status in the Metropolitan Division. The puck line may be in play here against the dreadful Red Wings. Cam likes New Jersey but not the price.

Arizona Coyotes -137 at Ottawa Senators (RDS)

Monday’s episode (02/10/2020) featured a great pick from the guys on Arizona at Montreal. The Coyotes prevailed 3-2 as Cam saw a looming Habs letdown. But the Coyotes can’t rest on their laurels as they are fighting for their playoff lives. Brian remarked on Monday at how streaky Arizona can be. Brian says the Coyotes will be in desperation mode after their Tuesday loss at Toronto. Cam really likes Arizona in this one.

New York Islanders at Nashville Predators -136
