The Harbour - Proverbs: The Heart of Wisdom

Proverbs: The Heart of Wisdom

01/26/25 • 33 min

The Harbour

This morning, Sarah Lyew wraps up our study of the book of Proverbs with a bit of a bird's-eye view of what it means to guard our hearts and grow in wisdom. Please note two things: we were using a different microphone this morning so if you detect a bit of a tinny ring, it's just you, it's on the recording. We'll work to sort that out in the future. Secondly, there were two video clips shown during the sermon. Links to each video can be found immediately below and I (Will) have interjected myself into the recordings with instructions about when to access them.
Video Clip #1: Rise of the Guardians
Video Clip #2: The Bible Project

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.
Home Church Questions:
1. What is your comfort movie?
2. What would you say your core is?
3. Read Proverbs 4:20-27. What stood out to you from this passage?
4. How does understanding the Old Testament definition of "heart" impact how you read this?
5. What does 'guarding your heart' look like?
6. Read Proverbs 31:10-31. What stood out to you from this passage?
7. If you were to grab coffee with the Proverbs 31 woman, what do you think she would be like? How would you describe her? Sarah suggested she would look like Jesus. What do you think of that?
8. How does having Jesus as your core change who you are?
9. Are there areas in your life where you need to realign with guarding your heart?
10. If Jesus is more concerned with who are we than what we do, how does that impact how we live?
11. Pray with and for one another.

2. What stood out to you from Sunday's teaching? Do you have any questions about it?
3. Read Proverbs 16:32, 19:11, and James 1:19. What stands out to you from these verses?
4. How does slowing down and being patient relate to wisdom?
5. How does slowing down impact others? How does it impact ourselves?

7. Read Genesis 1:26-31. What stands out to you from this passage?
8. How does being created in the image of God and as part of a creation that God deemed “very good” inform how we deal with others and ourselves?
9. How does J Lo’s teaching impact your understanding of wisdom? Is there something that you will take with you this week?

I Am That I Am

Today, Sarah Lyew kicks off our new series entitled "I Am..." where we will be looking at a variety of "I am..." statements that Christ offers in the Gospel of John. To start us off, though, we look back to the story of Moses and the burning bush in the early chapters of Exodus.
