The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
Motherhood changes us. As the generation who were told we could do anything and be anything we want to be, accepting the changes that come with motherhood can be very difficult.
This podcast is a collection of stories of matrescence, motherhood, womanhood and change, told by our Mama Rising coaches and mothers around the globe. Through our stories and community, we hope that the wisdom of the rite of passage of matrescence spreads far and wide, and that we can begin to change the way we see, value and support ALL mothers everywhere. Because we really need it.

#260 | TAKE THE MIC | FINDING THE WORDS TO HEAL THE ANGER | Elena Sánchez Martín
The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
04/03/24 • 20 min
In today's Take the Mic episode, we hand our mic over to Elena.
Elena bravely shares her experience of matrescence, and her vision now for her work - and in particular, her desire to create a space for the mothers in her community and in her country to be vulnerable about their own experience, free from judgement.
But as she asks so beautifully in this episode... how can you create that for others when you don't even have the words for it yourself yet?
How can you support other women's experience of anger, maternal rage, overwhelm and inner doubt, when you are still unsure where it has come from yourself?
And so, like so many of these phenomenal women, she started with herself.
Elena Sánchez Martín is a dance and movement therapist, Mama Rising Facilitator, and founder of Mamasenda, an emerging mother support project based in Northern Germany. Through her body-oriented therapy, coaching, and workshops, Elena helps mothers find their path to a fulfilling and self-determined everyday life. With her work, she aims to contribute to the cultural and social change needed for mothers to be seen, valued, and supported as she believes they deserve: with respect and without the pressure of unattainable ideals.
Elena lives in Bremen with her 3-year-old daughter and her husband. She loves dance, small improvised daily rituals, and the changing seasons that remind her that life has its ups and downs but light always follows darkness. Elena is driven by a strong will to create a more peaceful world for our children and future generations.
If you want to know more about Elena and Mamasenda, please visit her website, follow her on Instagram and feel free to get in touch! Please note that both Website and social media are in German, since she is not (yet) offering her work on-line.

Ep 11: Love Languages with Nathalie Biviano
The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
04/10/17 • 27 min
Her husband is a remarkable father (he rarely misses bathtime). But, being a remarkable father wasn't enough for her. The guy who used to put her on a pedestal....just...disappeared. She desperately missed him.
Throw in sleep depreviation, not showering for 3 days, feeling like sh*t... hardly ideal conditions for effective communication. (And she has a degree in Communications!)
And then the last straw argument. She curled into fetal position, crying. Feeling so helpless. Because she knew they loved each other, but there was something so fundamentally missing to making them *feel loved* by one another.
And then she discovered the solution.
Her vulnerable heart couldn't go on; she needed solutions NOW. So she searched and searched. Read and read. Listened and listened. Bought courses, listened to podcasts, borrowed books, attended workshops, became a master student of world experts in the game of love + marriage.
Like any good student who was serious about getting good grades, she applied her learnings. And continues to do so, everyday.
The results? She saw changes in my husband in about 2 weeks. Not kidding. Nowadays, she feels him looking at her like that, again. And it feels divine. You can connect with Nathalie and find out more about what she does at www.nathaliebiviano.com

#169 - The Pendulum of Being Grounded in Motherhood with Sophie Burch
The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
10/05/21 • 38 min
Mental wellbeing for the mother in the 4th trimester continues to be an area which needs a lot more work and attention as we explore matresence in all its glory. Just like physical health, mental health needs tending to and the sooner we realise this, the better life will become; breeding greater self-awareness and confidence to reach out for help and more support if and when it’s needed. If parents practice this, then children will mirror that and learn more emotional regulation as they grow and healthy practices that they will instinctively use for life.
In this episode I join in a deep dive into mental health and it’s impact on Womanhood. Sophie Burch is a perinatal therapist and coach with 15 years working with parents. She’s author, founder and leader of Beyond Birth: Mindful Early Parenting Guide and has lived experience of PTSD, Birth Trauma, Pregnancy Trauma, and PND, and as a result, is on a mission to bridge a gap in mental health support for parents.
Join us as we chat about:
- Her journey from thinking she couldn’t fall pregnant to being a Mamma of four boys (including twins).
- Busyness and not having enough time. How we can maximise opportunities while meeting the demands of each day.
- How our heads run away with us and practical understanding of how staying grounded can help feel into this.
- Simply relearning new ways of being and being okay with that.
If you want more details around Sophie’s work you can find her at www.themammacoach.com.

#173 The Potential of Empowered Mothers with MR Facilitator Gladys Kangau
The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
10/26/21 • 45 min
You are about to meet one of my favourite people, Gladys Kangau. She was the successful recipient of Mama Rising scholarship and you will hear why spread throughout this conversation. Gladys is changing the world and reminds me every single day of what is possible in this world.
We touch on:
- the misalignment of postpartum depression and matresence in the 4th trimester, when we know deep down it's something more than just the label society gives it.
- how being the backbone of the family can sacrifice and undervalue mothers.
- how villages are changing within African communities and the huge responsibilities that come alongside that.
- the need to belong, self-care and feel at home, no matter where we are in the world.
and much, much more.
I would love you to join me and show your support for Gladys by following her on Instagram motherhood_unscripted https://www.instagram.com/motherhood_unscripted/
You can also find out more about the forgotten transition (as mentioned at the end of this episode) via my website https://www.amytaylorkabbaz.com/forgotten-transition/
We can change the way mothers are valued and seen in our society by having profound conversations and spreading the whispers of Matrescence together. Thank you so much for listening.

#248 | MATRESCENCE PARTNER SERIES | DO DADS EXPERIENCE PATRESCENCE? | WITH DR. SONAL PATEL
The Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
01/17/24 • 38 min
Welcome to "The Happy Mama Movement Podcast."
As your companion on this heartwarming journey through the tapestry of parenthood, I invite you to continue with me for our Matrescence Partner Podcast series, delving into the incredible journey fathers embark on during matrescence.
For years, I have been asked: but what about the Dads?
Do the non-birthing partners go through a similar identity shift?
Is there something called Patrescence?
And... how can I talk to my partner about this, and understand what they are going through too?
Welcome to our special Matrescence Partner Podcast series!
In this series, I have spoken with three different experts about the experience of becoming a parent, watching your partner experience matrescence, and how parenting changes the partner.
In our second episode, I'm thrilled to introduce Dr. Sonal Patel—a neonatologist, pediatrician, and the heart behind four boys. Graduating in 2003 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Patel's journey led her to Denver Health in 2009, where she played a pivotal role in crafting the NICU Preemie Breastfeeding Program.
Dr. Patel's personal experiences, marked by the challenges of postpartum emotions and the joys of navigating unique birth and feeding journeys with her boys, have fueled her deep commitment to maternal-infant health. Her path illuminated the gaps in post-discharge care and the support needed for maternal mental wellness.
Now, let's cozy up for our conversation with Dr. Patel, as we explore the tender dance of becoming a parent, the profound transformation fathers also experience during matrescence, and the crucial role of communication within partnerships.
How does parenthood redefine the partner's role?
What joys and challenges do they navigate alongside us?
Join us for a heart-to-heart conversation that goes beyond the surface, celebrating the unique journeys of both mothers and partners alike.
