Kelly Barrett decided from a very young age that she had to take control of her own destiny.
She's a firm believer that the game of life isn't played on a level playing field, so she was determined not to let her humble beginnings in the commission flats in Werribee, shape her future for her.
Having been served her fair share of back fortune, Kelly's resilience and determination were key to finding the gold at the end of the rainbow. Hard work, and a handful of sliding door moments presented opportunities which Kelly managed to convert into education and career building moments, and eventually to creating her own company designing underwear.
But Kelly needed more, and after seeing the impact other organisations were having through the bushfires of 2019, she knew what she had to do.
She set out to create and underwear brand that not only makes quality products, but gives back to the community and environment at every turn.
And so, Underwear For Humanity was born, pioneering underwear recycling, giving to charity, ethical production, and even giving opportunity to the organisations who pack the orders.
Kelly was extremely honest and vulnerable in this interview, It's a story she has never fully told before and I thank her for putting it all out there for us, so that we can take some of the lessons for ourselves.
Thank you Kelly!

Evana De Lune - The power of dance, and self love

Send us a text

Since the day she was born, Evana De Lune was destined for the stage.
Performance is in her DNA, having been dancing since a very young age, but a chance trip to a burlesque class, opened her eyes to a whole new world of performance.
She was so hooked by what she saw, she has been performing as a burlesque dancer ever since.
The entertainment industry was shattered when the pandemic set in, but where there's will, there's a way, and Evana took to online in an attempt to salvage her career, and to keep doing what she loves the most.
The plan worked, and her social media profile exploded, giving her both platforms to continue performing, but also a fan base who were eager for her live performances once lockdowns finally ended.
Evana is one of Australia's most sought after burlesque performers, regularly flying interstate to perform, and also to teach the art form to others.
What she discovered when she started teaching though, is our favourite part.
The people attending the classes often have a story to tell, themselves.
They come to find (or re-find) their sensuality and sexuality after often, very traumatic experiences, like long abusive relationships.
The dance students give themselves permission to move their bodies in new ways and be free of their past, which results in huge improvement in personal worth and self love.
Evana has taught people as old as 75, proving that sexuality, confidence, and self worth are not limited by age.
The podcast explores the history of burleque, and how it has evolved over the years, and how it's dazzling displays of provocative dance, is still as relevant today as it was all those years ago.
We also talk about how important self love is, follow your dreams, and to never give up.
Enjoy!

Ryan Abramowitz - The elephant in the room

Send us a text

Ryan Abramowitz was in Copenhagen when he learnt that his father had died from suicide.
It was an event that would change his life, and leave deep scars with him and his family.
He discovered through the grieving process that there weren't many options when it came to books to help people understand, and work through the grief of losing a parent or loved one after suicide, and with around 3500 people per year taking their own life, there seemed to be a real need.
During the cold winter nights of the pandemic lockdowns, Ryan began creating a picture book which, through the power of the combined words and pictures, and characters represented as animals, would help young people understand and work through the unimaginably tough time in their life.
After MANY iterations, and consultations with experts, Ryan finally finished his book, which he launched in conjunction with world suicide prevention day .
He also decided from the start that 18% of all profits will be given to charity, to help conquer the most terminal of mental health issues.
Ryan is an incredibly intelligent and articulate individual, who let me into his inner sanctum, sharing a very personal story, which has a really powerful message.
Thank you Ryan!
