In today's episode I'll be walking you through 6 things you should be thinking about and working on to help you lose weight consistently over the next 12 months.
These are "unconventional" tips because when you search "weight loss tips" on YouTube, you'll likely find tips centered around:

  • How much protein you should be eating
  • How to count carbs or why you should reduce them
  • How to do intermittent fasting
  • Eat whole foods
  • Exercise to lose weight

Interestingly though, there's so little talk about the most important piece of the weight loss puzzle... YOU.
And in this episode I'm going to walk you through topics like creating a plan, knowing what your goals are, creating new healthy disciplines, and a lot more. They aren't the fun things to always talk about but they are amongst the most important things to talk about.
There's a reason why 95% of people who go on diets end up regaining their weight within the first year. It's likely because their "diet" forgot to teach them the things tucked away inside this episode.

09: Should you just eat at maintenance calories to lose weight?

Today my wife (co-host) Lindsey Hoff and I dig into the topic of calories & losing weight. Here's some of the topics we discuss...

  • If you're paying attention to or counting calories, should you drop them immediately to what some fitness app tells you to drop them to if it's a big calorie deficit?
  • Should you try and figure out your goal weight maintenance stage calorie amount and just eat at that amount?
  • How many pounds per week is a good amount to aim for?
  • Why most people's weight tend to stall out (plateau) despite not changing anything - it was working before but now all of a sudden it stopped working! We'll discuss the most common reason why this happens.
  • Why it's so hard to figure out calories and deal with them for weight loss
  • The best way to figure out your current calorie maintenance amount so that you can figure out a target calorie amount to aim for in regards to a deficit (if that's what you want to do)
  • If you're tracking calories, I'll give you the best strategy so that you don't stress out your body and potentially stall weight loss.
  • My secret framework for losing weight without going on a diet (revealed!!!)

I'll even showcase what my diet use to look like before losing weight and then after and how many calories I was eating.
All that said, you absolutely must be in a calorie deficit to lose weight; however, you don't necessarily have to count them to actually lose weight.
The last quarter of the podcast Lindsey and I will discuss tips and ways to actually lose weight without the headache of counting every calorie you put in your mouth.
