The Fitnessista Podcast: Healthy In Real Life

Hi friends! I’m so excited for today’s episode because I interviewed my good friend Jen, and asked her many of the amazing questions you sent in via Instagram. It’s funny because I’ve followed her blog for years and years, and we’ve connected via email and DM so many times, but this was our first time actually chatting on the phone! She’s just as kind and wonderful as you’d expect from reading her blog.

Jen Eddins is pretty much a superhero. She’s a yoga instructor, group fitness instructor, personal trainer, running coach, author, single mom, and the blogger behind Peanut Butter Runner. It’s one of my personal favorite blogs to read, and if you haven’t made her sourdough bread yet, you need this in your life.

In this episode, we chat about:

How to combine power yoga with strength training

How she became an intuitive eater

How she balances everything she does (teaching, working, taking care of a baby solo)

The best breastfeeding food (it’s cake)

and her Zero 2 Run program, which you can check out here

You can follow Jen on her blog, on Facebook, and on Instagram

I loved having her on the show, and I hope you enjoy listening to this one.

Thank you so much for listening and for all of your support with the podcast! Please leave a rating or review if you enjoyed this episode. If you leave a rating, head to this page and you’ll get a little “thank you” gift from me to you.

023: Healthy holidays: Tips for Mental Health, Fitness, and Nutrition for the Holiday Season

Hi friends! We have a solo episode up on the podcast this morning and I’m sharing some of my best tips for reducing stress and prioritizing health during the holiday season.

Every time I hear an influencer or an online magazine talk about negating holiday food with exercise, it drives me BANANAS. Once I finished an Orangetheory class, and the coach was like, “Don’t use this as an excuse to eat whatever you want now!” and I wanted to punch a wall. (Not seriously, but you know. It riled me up a little.) Exercise and nutrition are two different things. You can’t delete food with exercise. Eat foods that energize you and that you enjoy, and exercise because you love your body, not because you want to punish it.

During the holiday season, it can be easy to let our healthy habits slip down the priority ladder, and that’s ok! Sometimes it’s good to scale back a bit. You’ll feel more energized when you get back into it, and it can even enable your body to bust a plateau.

In this episode, I share some of my ideas for making the most out of this busy season:

protect your mental health

how to get in a quick workout (especially when the kids are home from school for break) and

my holiday party and eating strategies

If you take anything from this episode, I hope it’s this: don’t let health and fitness stress you out! Try to prioritize the things that you know are important to you and make you feel good, but really focus on the love and the people around you. <3 The holidays are such a small portion of the year and if you go for a grand scheme of things approach, you can fully enjoy the holidays while still working towards your goals.

I hope you love this episode, and I’d love to hear how you navigate the holiday season.

What are your favorite tips for sneaking in workouts or focusing on nutrient-dense food when things are busy?

025: Women's Health with Dr. Kelly Culwell aka Dr. Lady Doctor

This week’s episode is my last one of the season for 2018. I recorded 25 episodes since June and have had the most amazing time connecting with health and fitness experts all over the world. I’m so thankful to you all for your support with the podcast and for your incredible ratings and reviews. I’ll be back in January with even more content for you and already have some pretty incredible guests lined up. If you have anyone you’d like to hear in an upcoming episode, please let me know! Also, you can catch up on past episodes here.

The last 2018 episode is an important one: I’m talking all about women’s health with Dr. Kelly Culwell, who’s also known as Dr. Lady Doctor. She’s been an OB/GYN for over 20 years and has experience in 5 different continents. She has so much knowledge and information to share, and I hope you feel more empowered about your own health after this episode.

If you could pick your OB/GYN’s brain, what would you ask?

Here are some of the topics we discuss:

How to dread our annual OB/GYN appointments less?

What happens during a pap smear?

What we should and shouldn’t do before our annual appointments

What’s the #1 thing you should be asking your doctor?

Menopause: how common is early menopause and what are some of the symptoms we should look for?

What do you recommend for those who want a reliable birth control method but would prefer to avoid synthetic hormones?

Here’s a little bit about Dr. Kelly:

Dr. Kelly Culwell AKA Dr. Lady Doctor has seen more than 28,000 vaginas on 5 continents in 18 years. There is literally nothing she hasn’t seen when it comes to women's health!

Kelly has worked as a fellowship-trained Ob/Gyn, a Medical Director for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Medical Officer for the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and a Senior Medical Advisor for the International Planned Parenthood Federation in London.

Dr. Lady Doctor’s mission is to bridge the gap between women and their healthcare providers; empowering them to speak openly about their bodies and ask the rightquestions.
