022: Intuitive Eating, high carb vs. low carb, and navigating the holidays with Anne Mauney, MPH, RD
11/14/18 • 39 min
In today’s episode, I’m chatting with my good friend Anne Mauney from fANNEtastic Food. Anne has been a good friend of mine for years (and partner for a few of the Winter Shape Up challenges!) so of course, I had the best time chatting with her.
In today’s episode, we talk about:Intuitive Eating: what it is, and how it works
How to have an intuitive mindset over the holiday season when we have more parties/events than usual, and are bombarded by sweets and cocktails
High carb vs. low carb diets
and so much more!
Here’s a little bit about Anne:Anne Mauney is a Washington DC Area Registered Dietitian (RD) with a Masters of Public Health in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Anne started her own nutrition counseling private practice in 2013, helping clients to improve their relationships with and reduce stress about food. She believes in an "everything in moderation" approach and encourages clients to ditch the calorie counting and diet mentality and enjoy real, whole foods - and yes, that includes dessert!
Anne is also the owner and author of fANNEtastic food, a healthy lifestyle food and fitness blog that she started in 2009 as a way to motivate others to lead happier, healthier lives through nutrition and exercise. On her blog, you'll find simple recipes, quick meal ideas, running and fitness inspiration, health tips, and daily adventures in living a balanced lifestyle while juggling being an entrepreneur and a mom.
You can find her on her blog, her online practice here, on Instagram and on Facebook.

023: Healthy holidays: Tips for Mental Health, Fitness, and Nutrition for the Holiday Season
Hi friends! We have a solo episode up on the podcast this morning and I’m sharing some of my best tips for reducing stress and prioritizing health during the holiday season.
Every time I hear an influencer or an online magazine talk about negating holiday food with exercise, it drives me BANANAS. Once I finished an Orangetheory class, and the coach was like, “Don’t use this as an excuse to eat whatever you want now!” and I wanted to punch a wall. (Not seriously, but you know. It riled me up a little.) Exercise and nutrition are two different things. You can’t delete food with exercise. Eat foods that energize you and that you enjoy, and exercise because you love your body, not because you want to punish it.
During the holiday season, it can be easy to let our healthy habits slip down the priority ladder, and that’s ok! Sometimes it’s good to scale back a bit. You’ll feel more energized when you get back into it, and it can even enable your body to bust a plateau.
In this episode, I share some of my ideas for making the most out of this busy season:
protect your mental health
how to get in a quick workout (especially when the kids are home from school for break) and
my holiday party and eating strategies
If you take anything from this episode, I hope it’s this: don’t let health and fitness stress you out! Try to prioritize the things that you know are important to you and make you feel good, but really focus on the love and the people around you. <3 The holidays are such a small portion of the year and if you go for a grand scheme of things approach, you can fully enjoy the holidays while still working towards your goals.
I hope you love this episode, and I’d love to hear how you navigate the holiday season.
What are your favorite tips for sneaking in workouts or focusing on nutrient-dense food when things are busy?
