The Femiio Podcast

Femi Olafioye-Omogbehin

Hi all! Welcome to The Femiio Podcast, a space designed to encourage us on our journeys towards self-love. After growing up without seeing enough women who looked like me and discovering what that did to my self-esteem, I decided to create a brand that is passionate about increasing the representation for and visibility of black women. I share lessons/observations from my own life on everything from dating, to work life, to spirituality, to friendships, in a way that is transparent, honest, and inspires others to practice self-love as well.

Y’all remember Hamilton, that show that came out a few years ago that reminded everyone Theater exists? Disney+ just started showing Hamilton on their platform a few weeks ago and you know we had to get into it. How much responsibility to artist’s have when telling a story? Is it okay that Hamilton seemed to gloss over America’s slaveholding history in favor of a good show? Listen to hear my take. The title of this episode, as you may have guessed, was inspired by that absolute BOP by Selena Gomez of the same name, about what it looks like when you get to the other side of heartbreak. As so many of us are now facing varying kinds/levels of heartbreak, be it personal, societal, or global, I thought it was important to discuss what it looks like to move through heartbreak, and how we can get to the other side even when the middle feels so vast and at times insurmountable. If you find yourself struggling right now, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a trusted friend or better yet a THERAPIST. They’ll save your life, I can personally attest. How to Become Beyoncé

The Femiio Podcast

play

03/31/20 • 34 min

When we think of Beyoncé, we often tend to believe that how she is is always how she's been — powerful, strong, self-assured. And to some extent that's true, but what's truer is that even she is in a process of becoming, as we all are. And it's evident in her work, that she has continued to grow and change and become more herself over her career. So what can we learn from that process? How can we also lovingly submit to our process of becoming so that we can grow into our highest selves? Making Your Body A Home

The Femiio Podcast

play

03/17/20 • 25 min

What does it mean to make a home out of our bodies? How do we practice making our bodies feel safe when so many of us have been taught and practiced years of the opposite — talking badly about your body, wishing you had someone else's stomach, or chest, or legs, overlooking the body's needs. In this episode we cover the practice of making homes out of our bodies, making them spaces we feel safe and comfortable in, and love well in and from. "The Chill Girl"

The Femiio Podcast

play

08/18/20 • 31 min

Who is The Chill Girl? What does that mean? In essence, The Chill Girl is a persona we slip into when we decide to make ourselves small. When we give into the teaching that we as women are to be seen, not heard — God forbid we express dissent or vocalize a need because then we run the risk of being called “high-maintenance”, “difficult to work with”, or be otherwise shamed. The Chill Girl is who we sometimes become in our efforts to belong (which is not a bad thing!). However, we must realize, the only way to truly belong is to abandon the “The Chill Girl” persona, and instead accept, embrace, and show up with all parts of ourselves.
