Gaz talks to Fergus and Jonny before their epic challenge next weekend on 1/11/2020⁣⁣
42,200m elevation gain.⁣⁣
Ben Nevis x 32.⁣⁣
540km.⁣⁣

Monotony. Dread. Loneliness. Pain. Darkness. Doubt. Fear. Fight. Shame. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Everything that this project represents, and sadly, what thousands of men suffer from in silence every single day. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This doesn’t have to be the case. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We all have our own uphill battles to face, but there is no reason for us to fight them alone. This is why @Fergus Crawley is not tackling this year alone, his coach and friend, Jonathan Pain is joining him, so that they can fight through this together, in the knowledge that we are stronger together.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
They will be open, they will be honest, and they will be vulnerable for the sake of our own progress - as we all should be.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This year, more than ever, we need to take a stand against stigma, a stance against shame, and galvanise a genuine, positive change for the sake of men everywhere. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As we try to take control of a global pandemic, we must try not to lose ourselves in the chaos. This year has flipped the world upside down, but all that can be done is control what we can, and make sure that we look after others. We have a role to play: talk more, listen more, and support one another. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
They're ambitiously hoping to raise £47,132 to take his cumulative total to £100k, and can only get there with your help.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So please share far and wide, donate where you can, and most importantly, start those conversations that could save your life, or that of another...⁣⁣ Details on how you can be more directly involved to follow!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Some people will call this insane, foolish, potentially worse... But you know what’s truly insane? The fact that so many men choose death over honesty.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Take it from someone who’s been there - be a man of more words, as talking saves lives.⁣⁣

play

01/22/20 • 98 min

Rob Parker is an English, former professional rugby league player. Some of the teams Rob has played for in the Super League are; Bradford Bulls, London Broncos and Warrington Wolves - Rob has also been capped for England. He was known for being a hard hitting forward who put his whole body on the line for his team. A full career took him to the top of his sport.
Towards the end of his playing career, whilst battling potential career ending injuries, Rob openly speaks of his addiction to painkilling prescription drugs whilst trying to maintain his own self-image of pro rugby player. His injuries eventually weren't sustainable and retirement from rugby brought about some of Rob's biggest challenges.
Questions such as; where does he fit in the world when not playing sport? What occupation can he do now? How can he put bread on the table for his family? A number of very difficult years followed and Rob openly shares the highs and lows of all of them.
Rob is now enjoying a flourishing second career, some of it in front of the film cameras starring alongside actors such as Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham and more recently Noel Gallagher. Mark Ormrod has a story like few you have ever heard. From joining the Royal Marines at just 17 to a number of years later being the UK's military's first triple amputee (both legs and dominant arm) Mark had every excuse going to give up - but Mark doesn't have any quit in him.
At 24yrs old whilst recovering in hospital Mark was told that he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair & need to employ a full time carer. After the initial shock Mark decided that he wasn't going to let someone else's opinion become his reality.
A proud father (known to his children as Iron Man) and husband, he created a new purpose and continues now to dominate and thrive in live. A pioneer in the UK as an above the knee double amputee prosthetic walker, he has gone on to be a best selling author, motivational speaker, BJJ blue belt and win multiple Invictus games medals.
His attitude and perspective towards life can help us all. You won't be disappointed by this podcast.

Gaz, a former Special Forces Sergeant Major but now performance consultant, opens up his network to try and understand what motivates some to risk so much, why some are so driven, and what it really takes to achieve success in any sector.
This episode Gaz speaks to another old friend Dinger Bell. Dinger is a former Royal Marine who since leaving the military has completed a number of arduous challenges. None however are quite as tough as the New York to United Kingdom solo unsupported row that he was about to commence. What Dinger is about to commence will be a world first if he is successful. As those familiar with Ocean rowing will recognise that there is normally a crew of rowers aboard their craft working on a routine enabling there always to be someone rowing and making progress. As a solo rower, when you're not rowing you're at the mercy of the elements.
The North Atlantic is a very different crossing than the more usual Mid Atlantic route. Fewer than 60 people have EVER rowed across the North Atlantic while over 100 people rowed the Mid Atlantic last year alone.
