The Drive with Alan Taylor04/22/23 • 87 min
Alan welcomes back contributor and long time friend, BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. She delivers news from the auto industry, like the Kia Stinger is leaving the fleet – “A fun car to drive, and fast!” Kia will be making a tribute limited edition version, a thousand to be exact for sale worldwide. Next, Porsche is introducing its 2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe, a third generation, redesigned, and offers 3 different drive trains. It promises driving pleasure on every terrain. At last, JLR, or Jaguar Land Rover, has rebranded itself to focus on the 4 sub brands, Range Rover, Discover, Defender, and Jaguar. They wanted to combine their house of brands to enhance the uniqueness of their character British marks. Up next, to deliver more auto news is another contributor and good friend Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member and Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com. With what is happening in China, we are surprised to find out that the New 2023 Lincoln Nautilus SUV is being built there. Volvo, and Buick also have vehicles that are being made and shipped from China. With the government wanting 67% of the vehicles on the road to be electric by 2032, China holds the majority of the mines that host the minerals needed to build the batteries of said electric vehicles. Are we gonna destroy earth here to fulfill the supply and demand? Later Lauren Fix will share with us what she read in an article from China’s newspaper in regards to that. Karl and Alan switch topics to inquire about the top most recalled vehicle. Drum Roll! It’s the Tesla Model Y, in fact, Karl says the next top five slots, Tesla holds four of them, and Porsche takes the last spot. Study was taken over a 10 year span. Jumping in the hot seat next is Lauren Fix, Editor in-Chief for Car Coach Reports. Lauren is here to to share a little tidbit about tax credits and electric vehicles. If your electric vehicle is made in the U.S. you get a $3750 tax credit. If 40% or more of your battery for the E.V. is built here, you get the other $3750 tax credit. Sixteen new models are eligible for the new tax incentive. You can visit Laurenfix.com to review the list of eligible vehicles. Being that China owns 80% of the mineral mines, she had read in a Chinese Political newspaper that they plan to use the control of the earth minerals to squeeze the U.S. and the world to comply. They are planning an export ban on rare earth magnets and corner the market. Closing the show today with Alan is Brian Moody, Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com and KBB.com. Brian is here to let us know that the prices of used cars are slowly going up. However, he also brings us a list of three row SUV’s that are under twenty thousand. The 2016 Buick Enclave, comfortable SUV, 2014 Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, Yukon XL, look for an LT, Dodge Durango 2016, ford expedition 2014, Honda Pilot 2016, 2017 Mazda CX9, look for signature trim level, 2015 Nissan Armada, 2015 Toyota Highlander and the 2021 Nissan Rogue. Before Brian leaves, he shares that he test drove the new 2024 Mazda CX90 Inline 6 turbo. A nicely laid out three row SUV, Mazda offers alternative powertrain choices. It also has four modes to optimize its power delivery. Very nice ride. Well, that’s it for this episode, join us on the next episode as BJ Killeen returns along with Steven Cole Smith, George Kennedy III, and of course Brian Moody.
