When personal genomics company 23AndMe opened in 2013, Hal was among its first customers, curious about his health genes. But the DNA swab he sent began to ping with other members' DNA. A few years after joining, Hal received an email informing him he had a new relative at 23AndMe. A son. He was the first of his seven donor kids to find him. But the real surprise would belong to Hal's (adult) donor kids: almost none of them knew they were the result of a sperm donation.
