"Look, I hunt my own animals. I'm connected to nature, and I'm helping the environment. Haven't you heard about overpopulation and the importance of hunting for conservation?"
In this episode I expand fully on my recent YouTube upload, where I debunked Joe Rogan's arguments for hunting. In today's episode I expand on the morality of hunting, the environmental arguments that hunters use, as well as offering advice on what to say if you're faced with a discussion with a hunter who presents you with these claims.

In this 'ask me anything' episode I answer the most commonly asked questions I receive, including: "what's the problem with backyard eggs and are you still vegan if you consume them?", "how do you stay calm when advocating for veganism?" and "how do I deal with my non-vegan friends and family?".

The Disclosure Podcast - Ep 31: The Full Story of How I Became Vegan & Never Looked Back
play

04/03/21 • 54 min

In today's episode I look back upon the moments in my life that acted as building blocks towards me making the switch from passionate KFC lover to vegan.
I used to love eating fried chicken, I was always up for a trip to the zoo, and as a child I laughed at vegetarians. So, what happened? And how can reflecting back on what helped us make the switch to vegan help us become better advocates?

Today I speak with Mic the Vegan, a highly influential vegan educator and YouTuber, about what’s happening right now in slaughterhouses in relation to COVID-19, as well as the possibility of the coronavirus also being able to be spread through animals such as pigs.

We also discuss whether or not a whole foods plant-based diet can help us in the fight against the pandemic, and how our diets could be making us more vulnerable to the coronavirus.

Jo-Anne McArthur is a multi award-winning photographer, author and public speaker. Through her work We Animals, Jo-Anne documents the ‘invisible animals’ across the globe, the animals we eat, wear, test on and enslave, yet rarely see. Her award-winning work is frequently featured in high profile publications such as National Geographic, The Guardian and The Washington Post. ⁣I sit down with Jo-Anne to discuss her powerful work, the impact that it has, and also the effect that it has had on her. How can we as vegans, handle animal suffering? And how can we improve and be more present as animal rights activists?

Seaspiracy hit Netflix on March 24th, and I don't think even the vegan community were prepared for the huge impact it was about to have. Trending across the globe and hitting #1 on Netflix in the UK, the power of Seaspiracy cannot be overstated. An outpouring of news articles, statements in response, and a 'debunking' of the facts presented soon followed. Today I'm discussing Seaspiracy, the impact that it's had and some of the criticisms it's received.
In today's episode:
- Responding to: "What about Indigenous fishers? Seaspiracy shouldn't be telling Indigenous communities not to fish."
- Responding to: "It’s not right to tell the consumer what to do, Seaspiracy is gaslighting you."
- Aquaculture Alliance & false statements.
- What has the pushback from the industry been like so far?
- Going in depth on the Earth Island Institute/Dolphin-Safe conversation.
- Facing speciesism: caring about dolphins more than tuna.
- Explaining the great Pacific Garbage Patch statistic.
- Did Cowspiracy force environmental organisations to change their messaging, and will Seaspiracy do the same?
