The Design Brief
You're interested in the New 2018 Mac Mini and you want to know if this is a good computer for graphic design. Well, you came to the right place. I am going to review the 2018 Mac Mini for Graphic Designers. ⏩ Link to the 2018 Mac Mini and Show Notes below! ► New 2018 Mac Mini ( https://amzn.to/2KKrZRu ) - 16GB RAM, i7 Processor, 1TB SSD Alternatives to the Mac Mini ► Alienware R7 ( https://amzn.to/2DRwyIg ) ► CUK Continuum ( https://amzn.to/2DSTqXU ) ► HP Pavilion - Small Desktop ( https://amzn.to/2E6gZNu ) ► MSI Trident - Slim Desktop ( https://amzn.to/2Qp4ceN ) Currently I work as a graphic designer and digital marketing manager where I use the Mac Mini on a daily basis. I am going to walk you through some of my frustrations with the current Mac Mini that I use and why I think this the New 2018 Mac Mini could be a solution to the problems that I have on the daily. What does my workload and software use look like each day while using the Mac Mini? I am normally working out of multiple Chrome browser windows with multiple tabs open on those windows. I am an avid user of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. I would like to use all of those programs at the same time, but unfortunately, due to the lack of power in the current Mac Mini, I am using I can usually only open when Adobe software at a time while also using Chrome with the open browser windows. The reason is two-fold. The i5 Processor combined with a meager 8GB of RAM. The RAM memory is what is used to deliver the ability to use multiple programs at the same time. For instance, when I open Photoshop and begin to use the program I am usually pulling anywhere from 3 - 6 gigabytes of RAM memory. IF my computer only has 8 and the Chrome browser is 1 - 2 then that only leaves my computer with 1 maybe to gigabytes to use. You can now see where the issue lies. The Mac Mini becomes quickly overloaded and I get the spinning rainbow of DEATH. Now, how is this overcome with the NEW and improved 2018 Mac Minis? Well, I am glad you asked! The new generation comes with a few options for you. You can get either 8, 16, 32, or 64gb of RAM. An i3, i5, or i7 processor. As well as 128, 256, 512GB, 1, or 2TB of Solid State hard drive. So immediately we see the increase in power and opportunity for much better performance. I would not recommend getting this computer with anything less than 16GB of RAM and the i7 processor, and 512GB of solid state Hard Drive. I think this is a great machine, but for the cost, I find that there are equally powerful computers that will do the job for graphic designers at a fraction of the cost. The Mac Mini is an interesting computer. Its size is its leading benefit. For those how are not able to purchase a BIG tower due to spacing limitations, the Mac Mini is a fabulous solution. The only issue comes when you consider the build and its relation to how it performs because of that build. The Mac Mini has no vents on the side of the computer. Because of this it does not allow the fan to pull a great deal of air across the processor to cool the processor and retain peak performance. So rather than running the fan faster and trying to cool the computer, the Mac Mini throttles back the performance to control the temperature. When you look at a standard tower from other companies you will find a large vent with a large fan along with plenty of space inside the computer housing. This allows a lot of airflow over the key components to cool them and keep your computer running FAST. So those are my basic/introductory thoughts on the 2018 Mac Mini if you want to listen to get my full review you can listen/watch on YouTube or via the Podcast! ------- Support My Channel With Patreon! ►►► ( https://www.patreon.com/bengkaiser ) SOCIAL Twitter ► @bengkaiser Facebook ►/bengkaiser Instagram ►@bengkaiser DISCLAIMER: ALL LINKS IN DESCRIPTION ARE AFFILIATE LINKS Thanks for Supporting Our Channel!

( http://bit.ly/2FBG2tt ) If you are considering starting a graphic design business there are a handful of details you are going to want to consider that affect not only the design details of your business but also the administrative parts too! There are a lot of tips that can be shared when starting a graphic design agency, but I think one of the most important things to consider right off the bat is the service you will offer. If you are a graphic design firm that is known for doing any type of design for any type of client you will have an unscalable business. You will not develop a clear marketing strategy for your services, nor will you have the ability to hedge yourself as the go-to graphic design business when people are searching for a specific graphic design need. Have you set goals? Are you prepared to grow your design skills and business knowledge to build a successful business? One of my favorite sayings is, "If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got". This is so true and needs to be addressed when you are starting your graphic design graphic design business. Set some goals, write them down, and strive after them. If you want to become a freelance graphic designer then you need to get specific with your goals and write down how many clients you want to have in your business, how much money you want to make and what new skills you want to learn. Get practical. What Does it Take to Become a Graphic Designer?

What does it take to become a graphic designer and sustain a long-term career in the graphic design industry? If you are looking to become a graphic designer I want to fill you in on a few key elements to achieve long-term success. ⏩ Links for the Resources Mentioned in this video and show notes below! ► So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport ( https://amzn.to/2Pa2OIA ) ► Deep Work by Cal Newport ( https://amzn.to/2SmGwFA ) ► Join The Design Brief Facebook Group to be a part of a community of designers looking to grow their careers and businesses! ( http://bit.ly/thedesignbrief ) It is crucial to consider long-term sustainability if you are looking to become a graphic designer. You need to daily get up and work to improve your skillset and mindset to be oriented around the work you are producing and want to be producing as a graphic designer. It is not enough to show up once a week, once every other week, or even once a month and expect to become a great graphic designer. Quick story: Each work day I take some time at lunch to head up to our local park and use the outdoor "Cross-Fit" work out equipment to get a quick 15 - 20 minute workout. There are pull up bars, push up bars, boxes, benches, etc... I don't do anything crazy, like a 2 hour INTENSITY work out. I just get out, get my blood flowing and seek to build strength in my body. Now, the key is that I do this each and every day. Almost on the daily I will see people randomly stop by the outdoor equipment to bet their buddy they can do 20, 30, 50 pull-ups. can they accomplish this feat? Sure, and most do, but at the end of the year let me ask you, who do you think will be strong? Me or the guy who shows up once a month and does 50 pull-ups. ME! Why? Consistency! Consistency will always outweigh a BURST of effort or a spark of creative genius. If you do not put in the daily work and effort to become a graphic designer you will NOT become the graphic designer you desire to become. Now the question I will pose to you is this... What can you do each day to build your skills to become a graphic designer? Do you need to be learning the philosophy of design, following design trends, but more importantly foundational design principles? Are you reviewing and practicing with the latest products that Adobe is putting out to get an edge on the competition? All of these tools and activities will help you to establish yourself as a graphic designer and set you up for long-term success. Another very important piece of learning is to set up specific times each day to work on those skills and grow in the areas you want to improve. If you are not intentional about your time it is so easy to get thrown off by texts, emails, phone calls, and invitations from friends to go hang out on the town. Be intentional and protect your time to learn. ------- Support My Channel With Patreon! ►►► ( https://www.patreon.com/bengkaiser ) SOCIAL Twitter ► @bengkaiser Facebook ►/bengkaiser Instagram ►@bengkaiser WHERE I LEARN: (affiliate links) Lynda.com ► http://bit.ly/2rQB2u4 Envato ► http://bit.ly/2CSoROx edX.org ► http://fxo.co/4y00 MY FAVORITE GEAR: (affiliate links) Camera ► http://amzn.to/2BWvE9o CamStand ► http://amzn.to/2BWsv9M Compute ► http://amzn.to/2zPeLvs Mouse ► http://amzn.to/2C0T9hq TubeBuddy ► https://www.tubebuddy.com/bengkaiser Host Gator ► http://bit.ly/2CBonPO ( Get 60% off Website Hosting with the link ) DISCLAIMER: ALL LINKS IN DESCRIPTION ARE AFFILIATE LINKS Thanks for Supporting Our Channel!
