We’re back! Diana and her family moved during the break. There was so much to manage between the old house, new house, contractors, sick kids, and all the things! But she’s mostly unpacked and so excited to be back this week! After a longer-than-expected break, Diana is back just in time for a holiday episode.

It’s Christmas week, and if you celebrate, you know how wonderful and magical it can feel but also so overwhelming and stressful at the same time. Moms have an unfair amount of things they have to do to make it magical for everyone else.

In this episode, Diana shares ways to reduce the overwhelm and stress around the holidays.

We’ll also discuss:

  • The holidays look different depending on the season of life you’re in, and you have permission to do less. You do not have to do it all.
  • There can be too much of a good thing! Try to “declutter” your holiday season.
  • Are there things you can delegate or ask for help with? Do that. If not for this year, make notes of what you can do for next year.

We have the biggest decluttering challenge starting January 1st! It only happens twice a year, and the January challenge always has the most progress.

The Decluttered Mom Podcast - 068: Laundry 101 with Melissa Dilkes Pateras

11/14/23 • 35 min

On this week’s episode, Diana chats with laundry expert and author Melissa Dilkes Pateras all about laundry myths, best practices, and so much more.

You can find her on TikTok here: Laundrytok | Melissa Pateras (@melissadilkespateras) Official | TikTok

You can find her new book here: A Dirty Guide to a Clean Home: Housekeeping Hacks You Can't Live Without
In this episode, we cover:
Homemade laundry detergent is not effective and can damage your washing machine. The guest explained that commercial detergents are specifically formulated for high-efficiency machines and properly cleaning clothes. Homemade detergents often do not clean well and leave residue on clothes. As the host said, “Homemade laundry detergent is often not effective and can leave residue on your clothes. It's best to stick with commercial detergents that are specifically formulated for high-efficiency machines.”

  1. Look for natural, eco-friendly detergent options if you want to avoid harsh chemicals. Many major brands like Tide and Persil offer fragrance-free, dye-free options that work well. Check the ingredients to find simple, natural options.
  2. For most stains, pretreat with liquid laundry detergent and let it sit before washing. Dish soap like Dawn also works great for grease and oil stains. Hydrogen peroxide is excellent for whitening and brightening stains on white clothes. These methods avoid the need for most commercial stain removers. As the host recommended, “For most stains, pretreat with liquid laundry detergent and let it sit before washing. Dish soap like Dawn also works great for grease and oil stains.”
  3. Hot water is not necessary for most loads and can fade and damage clothes. Use cold water for the majority of loads to prolong the life of your clothes. Hot water is only needed for whites and when using oxygen bleach. According to the host, “Hot water is not necessary for most loads and can fade and damage clothes. Use cold water for the majority of loads to prolong the life of your clothes.”
  4. Disinfecting and sanitizing clothing is usually unnecessary and the products are often used incorrectly. Only disinfect when someone in the household is ill. Be sure to follow the directions carefully regarding water temperature, sit time, and rinsing. For general cleaning, hot water and detergent are sufficient. As the host explained, “Disinfecting and sanitizing clothing is usually unnecessary and the products are often used incorrectly. Only disinfect when someone in the household is ill.”

The Decluttered Mom Podcast - 032: Growing Out of Your Comfort Zone

The Decluttered Mom Podcast

play

03/07/23 • 29 min

This episode is longer than usual, and the topic is a little different than a typical episode, but Diana wants to share an important lesson that was helpful in her life.

It’s really tempting to stay in our comfort zone, especially in the past few years, and not add anxiety, worry, or fear to our lives. Diana was told years ago by business coach James Wedmore, “Growth happens out of your comfort zone.” Challenging yourself to be okay with being uncomfortable, whether with something big or little, once a month or once a year, can help you grow. We all want to grow, whether in a business, personally, in parenting, or marriage. Try and think of an area in your life where you can take a tiny uncomfortable step and just sit it in for a while and see how it feels.

In this episode, Diana shares times when she went out of her comfort zone in order to grow.

We’ll also discuss:

  • Learn more about Diana’s story in Ep001: Meet Diana Rene
  • What Diana did at the beginning of creating ‘The Decluttered Mom’ to grow so she could better support moms with her business
  • Diana talks about a significant investment she made early on in her business and how it led to a recent opportunity
  • How being accepted to a mastermind group for a business forced Diana out of her comfort zone

Ever wondered how a mom went from having "no time for herself" to baking bread and reading books - without hiring help?

Tune in as Diana interviews Olivia, a member of Minimal-ish Starts Here and a stay-at-home mom of two little ones who wanted more time for herself but found something even better! She thought her four-bedroom house was perfectly organized until she started decluttering – and wow, did things change!

The biggest win? Instead of feeling burned out at the end of each day, Olivia now enjoys peaceful moments with her kids and has time for herself.

Don’t miss out as Olivia shares some amazing insights about:

  • How removing excess toys actually led to her children playing more independently and becoming more interested in helping with household tasks.
  • The game-changing kitchen reset system that turned her 45-minute evening cleanup into a quick 10-minute routine.
  • Her brilliant solution for managing kids' clothes (spoiler: it involves ditching the folding!)
  • The unexpected way decluttering improved her marriage by eliminating resentment around free time.

PS: You won't believe what her husband said when she asked him about all the changes! 😄
