The most common question we get asked is ‘what is empathy’? Our answer? It’s the consistent decision to understand yourself and others so that we can all have fuller and richer human experiences. It’s a simple statement with a lot of complicated implications. We love complications, to be honest, because the more complicated something is, it’s usually more real. In that light, we’ve designed a 2-day virtual masterclass to dig into some of what it looks like to do the work of empathy. We’ll have discussions about inclusivity, how everyone has trauma and none of it is comparable, how to set boundaries, and why the Puritans were and are the worst, and more. It’s us and some special guests for this interactive experience. The next round is February 24 and 25, 2022 and you don’t want to miss it. Head to bit.ly/ARmasterclass to sign up. See you there!

Today’s podcast is brought to you by one of my favorite Pittsburgh organizations 412 Food Rescue. Powered by volunteers, or Food Rescue Heroes, the organization uses technology to fight food insecurity. Volunteers download the app, rescue food that is potential waste, and deliver it to non-profits helping the food insecure. It’s genius, it’s generous, and both The Good Doctors are big fans. Learn more about their work at 412foodrescue.org or if you’re listening in the Pittsburgh region download the app to become a Food Rescue Hero today!

I love true crime - learning about it, thinking about motivations and realities. I also love laughing, relationships, warm conversations between friends, and righteous anger over the terrible things humans do to each other. All of this is why I love the Sinisterhood podcast. Hosted by Christie Brown and Heather McKinney, the pod covers crimes we’ve all heard of - your Jeanbenes, your Nexiums - and ones you haven’t - like Gwen Shamblin and the Weighdown workshop. Told with research rigor, empathy, and humor - I cannot recommend this one highly enough. Find sinisterhood pod anywhere you find podcasts.
