I wanted to finish off season 1 with something special, and when I put a q&a up on the podcast instagram, more then half of the questions were about style. I've asked all the guests from season one to come on and give their thoughts, and most of them have agreed which is fabulous. So I'm going to split this up into 2-3 episodes that I'll release over the next 2 weeks.

This week, I'm talking to Hannah Jensen Fox, Jen Sievers and Carla Grace about style, how they see it in their work, how it evolves and changes and much more!

The Creative Kind - Jen Sievers - Can prints add value to your business?
play

06/02/24 • 52 min

This episode I’m talking with Jen Sievers about prints. I thought Jen would be an absolute font of knowledge on this topic because she is a NZ based artist who has recently launched a course on prints, and she has also successfully been selling her own for years in Aus and NZ. We chat about some of the challenges and benefits as well as some of the practical aspects like scanning and choosing reliable printing partners. We discuss the (maybe outdated) notion that prints will devalue originals and Jen counters with some great points about how having prints can help an artist remain accessible to a wider audience while help to build demand and visibility.

You can find Jen here and some information on her artist resources like her print course here!

The Creative Kind - Hannah Jensen Fox - studio spaces
play

05/11/24 • 37 min

In this episode Hannah and I discuss what sort of studio spaces have worked or not worked for her (she’s had 17 or more over the years so I figured she’d be the gal to ask). We discuss the importance of finding a studio space to match the stage of life you’re at, and also making any space work so that you can create when it works for you. We also chat about the importance of optimising studio spaces for creativity and mental health, and the value of connecting with other artists in a community.

The Creative Kind - Jordan Barnes- Finding Inspiration
play

10/20/24 • 48 min

In this episode I Interview Jordan Barnes, a New Zealand artist, singer, songwriter, and actor, about his sources of inspiration. Jordan explains that his inspiration comes from within and is often fuelled by visuals and life experiences. He talks about finding inspiration in various forms—whether through observation of the world around him, personal relationships, emotional experiences, or social observations. We discuss the themes and messages in Jordans work and the importance he places on allowing room for ambiguity in his work, so that viewers can interpret his pieces in their own way. Jordan also discusses how he juggles multiple artistic disciplines, and how surrounding himself with a supportive community, including mentors and family, fuels his creative endeavours.

The Creative Kind - Creative Matters Interview with Julie Battisti
play

01/06/25 • 83 min

Happy new year! Welcome back to The Creative Kind, Today’s episode is a little different — instead of interviewing someone else, I’m sharing an interview that I recently did for the wonderful Creative Matters podcast.

I’ll admit, it feels a bit strange to put myself in the spotlight here, but I think it’s a great opportunity to let you in on some of my personal journey, especially since I’m always asking my guests to do the same! A big thank you to Mandy Jakich interviewing me and allowing me to share it here with you all. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed chatting with her.

In this final episode of Season 1, I'm talking with Madeleine Simson, Johnny K, Emily Raubenheimer and Willy Russo about style.

I loved hearing the similarities, differences and threads that carried across all these interviews and in a way, these short segments at the end of this season capture what I wanted to do with this show as a whole, the show a diversity of opinion, because sometimes the lessons that you learn in your first 10 months creating art are as important and game changing as those that you learn 10 years in.

Thank you so much to all of the guests from this season, and thank you to all the listeners too!! I've loved making this and it means the world to me that you are all enjoying it too.

see you soon for season 2!
