In this difficult episode, Gabi interviews Kristen Overholt, LMHC regarding self-harm. Kristen has worked extensively with clients suffering from self-harm. She has a background in full-time residential treatment centers. Before joining Coral Gables Counseling Center Kristen worked with Oliver Pyatt, an eating disorder treatment center.

As therapists, Kristen and Gabi explore what self-harm entails. What it is and what it isn’t. The population that it covers. They also discuss how parents can talk with their kids about self-harm. What are the signs?

This episode was a learning process for both me (Emy) and Gabi. Hopefully, you too will learn from Kristen, as we did.

If you suspect one of your loved ones may be purposefully inflicting harm on themselves, you can schedule an appointment with Kristen Overholt for a consultation, by calling our office at 305-445-0477.

11/17/22 • 38 min

Released: November 17, 2022

Featuring: Monique Lang, LCSW

Cohosted By: Ziji Drake, MHCI and Emy Fernandez, MBA, Certified Life and Executive Coach

Description:

In this special episode, The Counseling Corner welcomes Monique Lang and Ziji Drake. Emy and Ziji will be cohosting this episode, as they discuss Earth-Based Psychotherapy with Monique Lang.

Using Earth-Based Psychotherapy we move from the left-brain narrative aspect of therapy into a more embodiment approach, facilitating the release of trauma and beliefs still held within the body. Shamans have performed ceremonies over the centuries in the service of healing using intimate knowledge of the four elements Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. As Monique explains in this podcast, some of these simple yet powerful principles can be easily incorporated into modern psychotherapeutic models.

Stay tune until the end as we close it all up with a surprise!

Monique Lang, LCSW, was born in France, grew up in Central America, and held a private practice in Manhattan for many years. She has studied and practiced with Shamanic Elders in South America and runs workshops in Ecuador that combine her expertise as a licensed therapist with her knowledge of earth-based practices.
