Self Harm
The Counseling Corner
06/22/20 • 29 min
In this difficult episode, Gabi interviews Kristen Overholt, LMHC regarding self-harm. Kristen has worked extensively with clients suffering from self-harm. She has a background in full-time residential treatment centers. Before joining Coral Gables Counseling Center Kristen worked with Oliver Pyatt, an eating disorder treatment center.
As therapists, Kristen and Gabi explore what self-harm entails. What it is and what it isn’t. The population that it covers. They also discuss how parents can talk with their kids about self-harm. What are the signs?
This episode was a learning process for both me (Emy) and Gabi. Hopefully, you too will learn from Kristen, as we did.
If you suspect one of your loved ones may be purposefully inflicting harm on themselves, you can schedule an appointment with Kristen Overholt for a consultation, by calling our office at 305-445-0477.

What the Heck is Psychoanalysis Anyway?
The Counseling Corner
05/25/20 • 48 min
In this episode, our co-host and Marriage Family Therapist, Gabi Reyes, leads the conversation with Jenny Friedman, LCSW, also from Coral Gables Counseling Center and Dr. Eugenio Duarte, Psychoanalyst and Clinical Psychologist.
We decided it would be good to do an episode on psychoanalysis because there is so much confusion as to what exactly it is and the difference between psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. Both Jenny Friedman and Dr. Duarte are trained in Psychoanalysis.
For more information on Jenny Friedman, you can visit her page on our website at:

Work Life Balance
The Counseling Corner
12/16/19 • 39 min
In this episode 29, Gabi and Emy, the two co-hosts, discuss work life balance and the traps that the illusion of “work life balance” creates. They offer some ideas on how to set up a “work day balance” instead by planning your day and having the freedom to make adjustments to you day so it doesn’t feel so off scale.
Emy discusses how she’s learning how to say no by getting on Marie Forleo’s “no train.” Emy explains how women attorneys have a problem of over promising and over delivering instead of under promising and over delivering. So they end up scheduling unrealistic deadlines.
