James Nestor: BREATH - The New Science of a Lost Art
The Coaching Lab: Health, Wellness & Performance! (Brad Cooper, PhD)
08/30/21 • 49 min
Breathing. It’s so simple that unless we’re struggling to do so due to something like an asthma attack or drowning, it never even crosses our minds. But what if we’re doing it wrong? Seriously – what if developing some simple changes to the way in which we breath could improve our health, our energy levels and our outcomes in life?
Today’s guest is James Nestor, popular journalist and best-selling author of the white-hot book BREATH: The New Science of a Lost Art. We’ll discuss his intriguing journey to examine the history of how the human species has lost the ability to breathe properly and why we’re suffering from a laundry list of maladies—snoring, sleep apnea, asthma, autoimmune disease, allergies—because of it. And of course, we’ll talk about what this means for each of us and our lives based on the evidence, not simply headlines.

For decades, statisticians, social scientists, psychologists and even nobel prize winning economists have devoted extensive time studying whether or not streaks exist. Can someone – from gamblers to stock analysts to 3 point shooters and others actually have the “hot hand”? Is it science? Or myth?

Tom Peters: The Red Bull of Excellence
The Coaching Lab: Health, Wellness & Performance! (Brad Cooper, PhD)
04/01/20 • 45 min
For almost 40 years, Tom Peters has been identified as one of the world's most influential thinkers. In 1982, he co-authored what became the book that essentially established the management/leadership book genre and he never slowed down. Fortunately for all of us, Tom cares deeply about the value of health & wellness and provided our biggest ! (you'll understand when you listen or if you know about Tom's affinity for !!!) of the month when he agreed to join us for this episode.
Warning: Dr. Cooper has been an almost lifelong fan of Tom, and he's not hesitant to make that obvious in this episode :-)
Whether you're in charge of an organization looking to enhance our results or a health & wellness coach seeking to grow your impact, you won't want to miss this episode with the Red Bull of Management. Excellence, as Dr. Peters reminds us, is the next 5 minutes!

Rinny Carfrae: World Champion (and Mom!) Talks Ironman, Wellbeing & Life!
The Coaching Lab: Health, Wellness & Performance! (Brad Cooper, PhD)
05/06/20 • 42 min
Mirinda "Rinny" Carfrae is one of the most beloved athletes (and when it comes to the run, the most feared!) in the sport of triathlon. She is the 3-time Ironman World Champion (plus the 2007 70.3 World Champion) and is also married to Timothy O'Donnell, the top-rated American Ironman athlete in recent years.
While we certainly touch on triathlon in this interview, the focus is on life. Rinny and Timothy are now married (2013) and parents of a beautiful 2-year-old little girl (Isabelle). The perspective she brings in terms of not simply training and racing but also general health and wellness are valuable for each and every one of us.
Health and wellness coaches will obviously love this episode, but they won't be alone, as one of the great athletes of our time shares her thoughts and insights about living real life in the midst of serious pursuits.
