When we consume food, particularly carbohydrates, our body breaks it down into glucose. This glucose enters our bloodstream, prompting our pancreas to produce insulin. Insulin's job is to remove this glucose from the bloodstream and deliver it to our cells where it is used for energy.

However, if we continuously load our bloodstream with glucose, say by eating every two hours, we can put our pancreas under immense strain. Over time, this can lead to the pancreas wearing out and becoming less effective at producing insulin.

Chronic presence of insulin in the bloodstream can lead to a condition known as insulin resistance. This is when our cells become less responsive to insulin, meaning they struggle to absorb glucose from the bloodstream. This can lead to high blood sugar levels and potentially, type 2 diabetes.

So, how can we ensure we remain insulin sensitive?

Exercise and a low-carb diet are two key strategies. Regular physical activity encourages our cells to use glucose for energy, reducing the amount in our bloodstream and therefore, the amount of insulin required.
