The Clean Living Podcast
Shannon Lohr
What’s really in the products we use and buy every day? Is it possible to change our own health by becoming more thoughtful consumers?
I’m your host Shannon Lohr and I’m an entrepreneur, mother and clean living advocate who thinks a lot about what I buy -- especially when it comes to home, food and beauty.
For most people, it’s overwhelming to sift through research about parabens and sulfates when you’re just trying to make it through the day, put dinner on the table and get the kids to bed.
But there is so much that we don’t know about the products we use daily. We don’t know who to trust, which ingredients to avoid, what to switch to and which companies are greenwashing a lie.
With mini episodes under 10 minutes, The Clean Living Podcast explores how to live a more sustainable life without guilt, shame or overwhelm. I truly believe that taking charge of the wellness in our own homes is a huge step in changing the world.

FOOD DYES
The Clean Living Podcast
12/07/20 • 7 min
There is a common ingredient in our food (often associated with sugar) that I think is worth tackling this holiday season -- especially since it’s avoidable once you recognize it. So, in this episode we’re talking about food dyes.

LAUNDRY
The Clean Living Podcast

After visiting a friend and her newborn, I went down a rabbit hole of laundry detergent research -- starting with a popular brand marketed for babies. In this episode, I’m recommending that you toss the Tide (and others) and switch to these clean detergents instead.

HAND SANITIZER
The Clean Living Podcast
01/25/21 • 7 min
At the time of recording this episode, we are still at the height of a global pandemic. The repeated mantra is: stay 6 feet apart, wear a mask and wash your hands. It’s no surprise then that a bottle of hand sanitizer has become a mainstay in every house, school, bag and car. So, in this episode, I want to explore what’s actually in the average hand sanitizer and why we need to be more careful about the brands we use.

NUT BUTTER
The Clean Living Podcast
01/21/21 • 6 min
The other day I ate a Reese’s Cup and instantly regretted it. It tasted nothing like the peanut buttery goodness of my youth. In fact, it tasted nothing like peanut butter. And that’s when everything I’ve learned about food additives and sugar and other food chemicals came rushing back to my brain, and I instantly knew why the taste was so different. And that’s what we’re talking about in this episode, nut butter.

BEDDING
The Clean Living Podcast
01/18/21 • 12 min
Ironically it wasn’t until several years into my career in sustainable fashion, and learning about eco-friendly fabrics, that I even thought about the fabric and materials used for bedding. We spend nearly a third of our lives sleeping and yet most of us don’t think about our sheets or pillowcases beyond how soft they are -- or maybe what the thread count is. So in this episode, we’re talking about how to ensure non-toxic sleep...

MILK
The Clean Living Podcast
01/11/21 • 9 min
In the years leading up to the “Got Milk” campaign in the 1990s and early 2000s, U.S. milk consumption was at an all time low. The American dairy lobby knew they needed to do something to stay relevant and survive, so with enough persistence (ahem, money) it convinced the federal government to step in. Here’s what happened...

TAMPONS
The Clean Living Podcast
01/07/21 • 7 min
Ladies, we have got to stop putting bleach up our hoo-hahs. “Bleach? I don’t put bleach up there...” you may be thinking. But if you use conventional tampons, you are absolutely putting bleach (among other things) into your vagina 4-7 days per month...
