2024 Mid-Year Personal and Business Goals Check In
The City Girl Savings Podcast
07/08/24 • 18 min
There was a point in my life where I would set big goals and not check-in on them.
I would keep them top of mind but only assess my progress once the goal time frame (typically one year) ended. Not anymore!
Now, I make it a point to assess my goal progress along the way.
This helps me course correct, make changes, or keep doing what’s working!
At the end of 2023, I shared my personal and business goals for 2024.
Now that we’re over the halfway mark of 2024, I want to share my progress! In this episode, I’m doing a mid-year personal and business goals check in!
I’m sharing my goal progress with you, in the hopes that you’re encouraged to do your own progress check.
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [02:07] Raya shares her progress on some health and diet related goals she set for 2024, along with a recipe!
- [05:25] Another goal for Raya is to max out her Roth IRA. She shares that she isn’t on track with this goal as of now, but has confidence it will be achieved.
- [10:38] Another off-track goal is taking an international trip. While planning has started, it likely won’t be a trip that happens in 2024.
- [13:40] Raya shares some events happening in the CGS community that can help reach the goal of 7500 Facebook Group members.
- [16:25] While the business is not hitting a 50% increase in revenue, it is averaging 20%, which is still promising.

Financial Education versus Financial Experiences
The City Girl Savings Podcast
04/15/24 • 17 min
My degree is in finance, but it wasn’t until I had learned from terrible money experiences that things started to improve.
Seriously, from 18-21, I was going to class every day, learning about money and finance and analysis, but after school, I was out spending money and accumulating debt.
I was not implementing a drop of what I’d learned and in hindsight, I’ve realized that there is so much more to money than knowing what to do with it.
Our thoughts, experiences, influences, and society all play a role.
In this episode, I’m sharing why you don’t need a formal education in finance to become financially independent.
I’m also sharing how financial experiences can mold a life of financial security.
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [02:31] Raya shares her early experiences with money as a child and her perspective on how things were covered back then.
- [04:57] A money belief that Raya absorbed early on was that if you go to work every day you will come home and have what you need.
- [07:45] The money principles Raya learned before college went out the drain when she got to college and had access to credit cards.
- [11:25] Raya learned the importance of paying her bills on time but only because she almost faced eviction for failing to pay rent on time.
- [14:41] 9 years after starting City Girl Savings, most of what Raya learns is through financial experiences compared to financial education.

The City Girl Savings Podcast
02/19/24 • 19 min
I started consistently journaling back in 2018.
The benefits that have come over time through consistent journaling are truly amazing.
I eventually was able to quit my corporate job and run City Girl Savings full-time.
I was able to see the growth in my thought patterns over time. I’m able to look back on old journal entries and feel pride and gratitude.
Because journaling has brought so many blessings into my life, I’m now an advocate of the practice.
In this episode, I’m sharing 7 reasons to start journaling on a regular basis as well as a few journal prompts to get you started!
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [01:48] The more you journal, the more you learn about yourself. The more you learn about yourself, the more self-aware you become.
- [04:10] Raya recalls a time where journaling helped avoid a major fight with her partner. Had she not journaled and acted on her feelings, bad things could have happened.
- [09:50] Journaling can help keep your goals top of mind. This can result in you taking actions that help you reach the goal.
- [13:30] Raya shares a snippet from an old journal entry back in 2020 to showcase how memories can be invoked through journaling.
- [16:22] Need some help getting started? Raya shares 3 different journal prompts that can help you begin your new journaling routine.

Pulling Back the Curtain and Getting Intimate
The City Girl Savings Podcast
09/26/22 • 51 min
I’m actually a very private person. I've had this subconscious guard up for as long as I can remember.
In today's episode, I'm challenging myself to break down that wall, and get intimate about my life. I’m sharing stories from my past and how they’ve shaped me.
Why? So you can get to know Raya, founder of City Girl Savings, on a much more personal level.
It's because of the incredible City Girl Savings Community that I feel inspired willing to talk about anything. I hope you enjoy learning a little more about me.
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [03:45] How a parent's actions shaped my view of trust in relationships.
- [18:13] My first *almost brush with experiencing loss. Holding on to powerful advice.
- [40:00] The benefits and value of therapy.
- [49:14] What's coming next?

Budgeting Multiple Six Figures with CGS Client Rachel
The City Girl Savings Podcast
06/03/24 • 49 min
While making a lot of money may seem like the answer to your problems, if you’re not managing it well, you won’t have anything to show for it.
Just ask my friend and City Girl Savings client Rachel.
When Rachel and I first started working together in January 2021, she was making well-over six figures but didn’t have a clue about where it was going.
Fast forward 3 years later and Rachel is making more than ever, saving, and investing more than ever and doing it all with a solid budget plan.
In this episode, Rachel and I are discussing how growing and budgeting your income, whether you’re making six-figures or not, can completely transform your life and finances.
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [03:20] Rachel shares that she grew up in a single-parent home and described money as being tight and not talked about much.
- [09:45] Even with making a good salary, Rachel feared looking at her bank app. She would avoid looking at the balance, especially after paying bills.
- [17:00] Having Raya make a budget for Rachel allowed Rachel to release some pressure and focus on sticking to the budget that was designed for her.
- [32:45] While Rachel doesn’t fully support “job-hopping”, she does agree that major salary increases come from a new role (whether in the same company or a new company).
- [42:18] Some days you’re going to give a little more to work. Other days you can give a little more to your family. It will never be perfect.

As I’ve been perusing my closet, I’ve come across a few fashion statement pieces I want to invest in.

Mid Year Personal and Business Goals Check In
The City Girl Savings Podcast
07/10/23 • 18 min
When it comes to your goals, you can’t just set them and forget them.
You have to check in on them and make sure you’re on track. If you’re not on track, you still have time to course correct and figure other things out.
Sometimes, things come up and your goals can’t be achieved exactly when you want them to.
That doesn’t mean you should give up though! It just means you’ll need to tweak, adjust and get back to work. The same goes for me!
You may remember at the end of 2022, I shared my personal and business goals for 2023.
Well, here we are, over 7 months into the year and I practice what I preach.
In this episode, I’m doing a mid-year personal and business goals check in. I’m sharing my check in results with you, so you can do your own mid-year goal check in!

- [09:45] We have a business goal of hitting 50,000 podcast downloads in 2023. Thank you for listening and helping us reach this goal!
- [13:00] We’re off target for reaching out annual website views goal, but with a newly-designed website, hopefully we can make up for lost time.
- [16:13] On a personal note, I’m currently working through managing my mindset when things aren’t as busy as I’m used to. It’s a work in progress!

5 Ways a Type A Personality Stays Organized
The City Girl Savings Podcast
01/22/24 • 19 min
“Hi, I’m Raya and I’m a recovering structure addict”.
Like most Type A individuals, I thrive on structure, organization, and time-specific tasks.
Unfortunately, my need for structure got so bad that I started dreading quality time with friends and family.
Thankfully, I’ve found ways to stay organized that suit my personality, but those ways are no longer at the expense of anyone or anything!
In this episode, I’m sharing 5 ways a Type A personality (AKA Me) stays organized and sane.
If you struggle with this, hopefully my tips and resources can help!
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [02:02] There was a point in time where dinner out with her besties felt like a chore to Raya. She knew things had to change.
- [05:26] One of the great things about Asana is that you can color-code your tasks to help categorize everything that needs to get done.
- [08:25] Not only does OneNote help Raya identify her tasks for the day, but it includes the goals she’s working on, so they’re always front and center.
- [13:05] Raya batches tasks like recording podcast episodes and writing blog articles, to help her manage her time more effectively.
- [17:57] Learning how to say “yes” to things that are non-work related has helped Raya utilize her time for things outside of just work and business.

5 Ways to Take Your Savings Strategy Up a Notch
The City Girl Savings Podcast
06/10/24 • 19 min
While saving money just to save is better than not saving any money at all, you could be missing out on opportunities to maximize your savings efforts.
When it comes to saving money, you’ll want to implement a strategy that sets you up for success.
You may already have that strategy, or it may need to be tweaked.
In this episode, I’m sharing 5 ways you can take your savings strategy up a notch and guarantee yourself the best results with your money-saving efforts.
Here's a glance at this episode:
- [02:35] Naming your savings account to match the goal you’re saving for, you’re more encouraged to avoid spending that money.
- [06:29] Depending on what you’re saving for and how long it will take to reach that goal, you may want a specific type of account as you save for that goal.
- [10:14] High Yield Savings Accounts are great options for saving for any type of goal because you’ll earn more interest than with a regular savings account.
- [13:54] As you make progress towards your savings goals, make sure you reward yourself for wins along the way.
- [16:45] It’s so easy to want to do everything at once, but you could be spreading your resources too thin and delaying your progress.
