De-Centring Remembrance Day - 99
In Episode 99 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav talk about the evolution they have gone through in their teaching practice in regards to De-Centring Remembrance Day. In an effort to create an atmosphere where the students and their students are centred with their stories and lived experiences, Chey and Pav think about how they have perhaps been centring a single and dominant narrative in their early years of teaching. Combining their knowledge and understanding of Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogy, they have developed a very meaningful activity that utilizes photography to create digital stories that truly highlight and exemplify the identities of the students. Here are a few links to articles that we used in our research of Reframing Remembrance Day: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13825577.2020.1844411 https://kojoinstitute.com/reframing-remembrance-day-an-equity-informed-approach-for-educators/ https://artmuseumteaching.com/2019/05/31/interrupting-white-dominant-culture/ A rich discussion with several a-ha! moments throughout!
