Today marks only one more week until Andrew and I are neck deep in Octopath Traveler. It just occurred to me that they never actually named the game; they simply removed ‘Project’ from the front of it. I’m hoping that’s the worst thing I have to say about this lovely looking JRPG. Also, if this previewis to be believed, the wait has been well worth our time.

On this, the forty-third episode of The Cartridge Family, I’ve had enough. Ubisoft is at it again saying things they’ll regret saying in the near future. EA is off doing the same, awkwardly narrating some otherwise decent looking gameplayfor upcoming shooter, Anthem. What I’ve truly had enough of is Buffa and his eponymous Beatdowns. He thinks he can waltz in here and tear my limbs off week after week, all in the name of retro gaming. I’ve had enough. It hurts. It really hurts. Thanks for listening. Send prayers.

Man, Into the Breach sure looks fun. I wish I had something to play it on. Luckily, Andrew’s got the scoop today on the hot new tactics game from FTL developer Subset Games. On today’s show we discuss the latest notable releases in gaming (and touch again on the volatility of reviewing games) before going over the headlines that caught our eye this week.

If you’re a first time listener, welcome to the family! If you’re an old fan, welcome back! Thanks as always for listening and enjoy the show.

A historic day in gaming, no doubt: October 27th, 2017 is a packed one with the release of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Super Mario Odyssey. Admittedly, I am curious about Assassin’s Creed if its indeed the reboot the series has so desperately needed since ... always, but the truth is that Super Mario Odyssey is the only aforementioned game that’s had my attention since it’s announcement. Today, on Episode 11 of The Cartridge Family, we touch on these releases before focusing on the task at hand: spooky games.

It’s the end of October, and that means its time to hunker down, bar the windows and prepare for the undead apocolypse. While we wait, the fam has time to reflect on our favorite horror games of all time. We also finally get a chance to discuss the results our now infamous facebook poll (results rounded to the nearest whole percent).

  1. 1st Place — Resident Evil 4 with 441 votes (45%)
  2. 2nd Place — Friday the 13th with 252 votes (26%)
  3. 3rd Place — Outlast with 117 votes (12%)
  4. 4th Place — Silent Hill 2 with 65 votes (7%)
  5. 5th Place — Castlevania SotN with 59 votes (6%)
  6. 6th Place — Five Nights at Freddy’s with 48 votes (5%)

So, if you wanna get in on the fun, please like The Cartridge Family Facebook Page because we’ll posting our next poll on November 1st. Anyway, be sure to listen to the episode and subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast app. Until next week ...

When Buffa’s away, the children play. Unfortunately Papa Buff had to take care of his other children during today’s recording, so we definitely missed out on his SNES expertise which likely would’ve made for a more enriching show. However, what we have for you is a silly and entertaining run through of all the games that come shipped with Nintendo’s new all-in-one retro console.

Before that, however, we’ll run through some recent headlines in the gaming world but for the most part you can look forward to some fun talk about some old, old (but charming) video games. Thanks as always for listening!

The Cartridge Family - 002 - How Come No One Talks About League

08/25/17 • 41 min

Well, I feel like a schmuck. It’s episode two and we’re already breaking format because certain Cartridge Family members just had to take precious vacations, visit Germany for Gamescom, and give birth (not literally since biologically he can’t) to a human child. Who am I kidding, Buff we’re all so happy for you and your new baby girl, Brynn. The alliteration is strong with this one.

For those of you that were kind enough to give us a shot last week and a second shot this week, I say thank you and I’m sorry for not having a proper episode for you. What I’m not sorry about is filling that void with a fun, brief discussion with a new colleague of mine, Tom Bramwell, the former EIC of Eurogamer. I’ll let him introduce himself properly on the episode ... which brings me to my last point—I owe you good listeners a proper mission statement and some introduction for each TCF team member. That’ll have to wait until next week, but know this: The point of this show is to have a lighthearted but educated discussion (maybe ‘experienced’ is the better word) about games and the games industry. We’ll go over that in better detail when my brothers return home, though.

For now, please enjoy this asterisked episode of The Cartridge Family. Tom and I will briefly go over the Xbox One X, touch on SNES Preorder woes, and finally discuss why League of Legends is so difficult to cover for a mainstream games media outlet.

The global pandemic continues and John chose to take drastic measures to ensure his family’s survival. He buys fruit and veggies from a local farm, he orders meat from a butcher (at least he’s not hunting...yet), and he even cut his own hair! Joe, meanwhile, finally left his house after two months of isolation.

What’s the one thing keeping these two sane? Animal Crossing: New Horizons! They’re passing the time collecting bugs, Easter eggs, and other things. John and his kids have their own copies (John also came up with a clever way for his kids to do chores... with Animal Crossing as the reward), while Joe and his wife are testing the limits of their marriage by occupying the same island! Nintendo... their future is in your hands.

Fortunately for Joe, Square Enix’s long awaited Final Fantasy 7 remake is nearly upon us, so he’ll have something to keep busy with in case his significant other refuses to relinquish the Switch.

Meanwhile, Buffa is brains deep into the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake. He chooses to live through both the virtual and actual pandemics simultaneously. Find out what he thinks of Capcom’s newest survival horror adventure, then stay for his tales of what it’s like outside amongst toilet-paper hoarding masses.

We close with Joe insisting that Rogue Legacy 2 deserves everyone’s attention, and a germ-riddled beatdown that will give you the shivers.

Buffa's out of town today so it's Joe's turn to type up some nonsense for you to read instead of simply listening to our delightful, weekly gaming podcast. I'm kidding. Buffa's a talented writer and I'm nothing. No one. An ant. A shadow of an ant. Dust.

Check out our latest episode. John and I breakdown the latest from Yacht Club Games, Xbox Series X's info dump, and how the Caronavirus is impacting the games industry. Thanks for listening as always and enjoy!

Sometimes my father brothers travel long distances to do work outside of the country. Right now is one of those times. They're all away. All of them. So, I'm left here to fend for myself and somehow put together a podcast with no father-brothers. Luckily, I'm surrounded by talented and interesting colleagues of all kinds, and so putting together a last minute show was easy as pie.

On Today's show, my good friend Vin Genova joins me to discuss his initial (but exhaustive) impressions on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Afterward, I ask my new good friend Chris Higgins (Managing Editor at http://allgamers.com) how he's enjoying his time with Assassins's Creed Odyssey. We dive into a bunch more, too, all listed below so thank you as always for listening and enjoy the show!
